Thank you for the birthday wishes! My birthday was on Sunday, and I’d hoped to post earlier, but the post is not co-operating.
David and Emily gave me some yarn for my birthday.
Isn’t it beautiful? (And pink – who’d have guessed?!?)
It’s going to be Eunny’s Venezia. I’ve been playing with colours, and it’s taken me weeks to finally decide on exactly which colours to use, but there’s one more to come, which is why I was waiting for the post. Infortunately, it still has not arrived. The main colour I’m going to use for the trim is discontinued and I had to order it from somewhere else. It’s a dark pink, and hopefully will work with the colours I’ve selected!
I’m not going to cast on immediately, because I’ve been promising Emily a cabled hoodie for about two years, and she’s starting to get whiny about it. It’s not like I haven’t knit her anything in a while!
She’s got a new hat, after all.
She’s very shy about being in front of a camera as you can see! (Not!!)
Specs:
Pattern: Selbu Modern by Kate Gagnon. (Free pattern available here)
Needles: 2mm and 2.75mm Knitpicks circs
Yarn: One skein of Claudia Hand Painted Yarns Fingering in Peony and one skein of ShibuiKnits Sock in Grace, both purchased from eat.sleep.knit
Mods: None!
Em’s happy with it, and I like it now that it’s finished, but if I were to knit it again, I think I’d go for more contrast between the two colours. The pink in the “Grace” was a little too close to the “Peony”. But it’s a great pattern, and went reasonably quickly, especially once I was computerless. (Still computerless, btw. Two weeks now, and counting!)
So Emily’s been doing quite well in the knitwear department lately. Someone else might feel left out, though.
He hasn’t had anything new in a while!
Woo, lovely birthday yarn haul there!
I just love that last photo of David in the very girly tam. Truly the mark of a Man Who’s Not Afraid Of Anything!
Happy Belated Birthday
And Yarn as a present a truly thoughtful gift!@
Happy belated birthday! Your birthday present looks lovely!
Happy Birthday to YOU!!!! Love the hat! Yep, she’s a pretty ham though! I DO think someone does look a little neglected in this post….LOL!!! You better get busy!;O)
I’m with Em – I think the hat’s great. The closeness of colours results in a lovely subtlety. And of course, happy belated birthday.
Heh, I knew Autumn Rose wouldn’t be your last colourwork jumper!! Looking forward to seeing Venezia! Excellent gift!
I am planning a Selbu Modern too – so many great examples around!
Love the hat. I went out and bought some Koigu to match with some stash yarn to make two of them. David looks like he needs a hat.
Love the birthday yarn. The sweater is going to be great.
Love the beret and all the photos of Em!! Happy belated birthday by the way!! 🙂 Love the yarns you got!!! Seems like you really love doing colourwork!!!
Happy birthday! Gorgeous Yarn, lovely hat. Looks like David needs one himself!
Em look just like you. Love her mug shots. Girl. taking on the Venezia is quite an undertaking. I love how you always take it to the next step.
The look on David’s face is so calm. I guess it would need to be living with all females, oh is Twinkie is a girl, correct.
Em mugging for the camera is a hoot. Love the cap. Now your going to take on Venezia. I find it amazing how well you take to all these projects. Love the look on David’s face. It would look like he is the calm in a household of females! lol
whoever chose that birthday yarn for you really has impeccable taste. the hat is gorgeous too, lovely on the lovely em, and makes himself look like a french art dude or something 🙂
Belated birthday wishes Donna!
Happy Belated Birthday!
Very nice present – gorgeous colors, and will make a lovely Venezia..
The hat turned out so well – looks great on her – and on David!
Happy Belated Birthday Donna! Beautiful hat. I agree that the giving of yarn is always a great gift.
Gorgeous yarn Donna. I cant wait to see some progress on that one. The hat is beautiful, suits David very well too. He must be born to wear berets, perhaps a frenchman he should have been. Glad you had a wonderful birthday!!
Mmm! I think David might look better in some other style/colour!!
Seriously, that hat is very cute – well done!
And don’t knit a hoodie till she wears the other things you knitted for her!! Like the pink jumper of 2008…
I reckon David looks very arty in his beret!! It is gorgeous but I agree about the contrast. Nice birthday wool too!!
