Twinky isn't herself yet :(
Twinky isn't herself yet :(
She's still off her food, which can be dangerous in rabbits, as their digestive tract can shut down. We have spent the best part of the evening trying to tempt her with all sorts of things, and finally got her to nibble some hay. I rang the vet, and if she is still unwell tomorrow evening, we'll take her back over.
Knitting is still nada. Despite the fact that my tension was too loose with the Katia on 10mm needles at first, now it's too tight. I don't have any needles bigger than a 10mm, so I shall have to go out on the weekend and hunt a pair down.
Of course, it could be my anxiety levels rising.... :)

A few things:
1. raspberry leaves (if you can find a plant somewhere) -- our bun couldn't resist them no matter how crappy she was feeling
2. anti-gas meds. stress like a spay can easily cause gas in a bun. in canada, baby ovol is the thing. in the us, liquid phazyme (or whatever they call the phazyme for babies). your vet can give you the proper dosing info. it absolutely won't hurt and might help. it's liquid simethicone -- ask the pharmacist at your drug store.
#2 is the most important thing we ever learned for our rabbit. she's off all fresh veg (and has been since she was 2 or 3) because she's too prone to getting gas. she's a hay and pellets bunny only and is doing fine. she just celebrated her 10th birthday last month! good luck!
Posted by: Amy at July 16, 2004 05:46 AMsorry, one more thing -- it's a rare bunny that doesn't eat the whole house they live in, even after being spayed or neutered. it's their nature. they're just trying to clean up their dens, after all. :-)
visit www.rabbit.org and look for "bunnyproofing" information. but she will calm down SOME once the estrogen has fully left her system. about a month or so after surgery.

Have you tried dried apple for Twinky? Our pet store sells it as rabbit treat in small boxes but you could likely get it at a health food store or grocery store. Best healing prayers to Twinky.
