The cloverleaf sock number one
The cloverleaf sock number one is progressing nicely - the toe is in sight, probably finish it tomorrow.
With this in mind, and the fact that the second sock is due to be started, I evaluated the sock stash again, and again decided that nothing in there was appropriate. The sock has a lovely cable pattern, and I didn't want a patterned yarn that might be distracting. Aha! I shall dye my own.
I perused my kool aid stash that Jill sent me, and decided that it should be green - I have no green socks, and the bright green sock yarn that I bought a few weeks ago has been soundly claimed by my DH.
So I went off to the local craft shop and got some Patons Patonyle in cream. (Which I believe to be the Australian equivalent of Kroy, and the only locally available sock yarn)
Then I dumped it all in a saucepan with some water and cooked it for a bit.
Then after all was done and cooled, I rinsed it off.
I can't say I'm overly happy with the finished results. It's a little too bright and patchy. Normally I would love it, I love variegated yarn, but the point was that I wanted solid colour for a change. Oh well, I'll let it dry and start the socks, and see what I think then. Maybe I'll love it after all. Maybe I'll need to buy more ;)

I have been dyeing recently with Cushings Dyes and I haven't gotten a real solid yet. I always seem to get a little bit of mottled color. The first few times dyeing was just roving which came out more varied. I just did a lace weight yarn and it came out a bit more variegated. At first glance it did look more uniform in color until I looked closer at it and then I could see the variegation.

I'm not a dyer, but could you give it a 2nd bath? Love your blog. The ballerina bucket pictures just thrilled the little girl in me who used to study ballet.
