We're going to have a

We're going to have a poll!

koolaidyarn.jpg

My Kool Aid yarn is dry, and it has lightened a little, but is still a little blotchy. A lovely lady named Alison has kindly offered to send me more Kool Aid to give the yarn a second bath. Will this even out the colour? Does anyone with more Kool Aid dyeing experience than I know the answer? Should I redye it? The pattern I am doing is called "Making Waves" and is a cabled sock.
Even if you've never left a comment before, just say "yes" or "no". Please. Hi would be nice, but I won't push my luck ;)

Twinky had her stitches out this evening, and was proclaimed to be healthy and well. This was after she did her best to pulverise the vet and his assistant. :) She is most unhappy with us now and is sitting in a corner, refusing all bribes.

Hmmm... maybe I should give Twinky a Kool Aid bath ;)

I don't know anything about dying, but I think if you try to redye it, you'll still have blotchy spots - just darker and lighter ones! I can kind of see lighter spots in the photo, but I don't think I'd redye it. Just say it was supposed to be a variegated green! I think it will look fine in a cabled sock.

I'd redye it. But I'm like that. I might go looking for a different food dye though. Do you have "crystal light" or any other drink mixes? I'd go looking for a darker colour green, maybe. Have you knitted a with cables to see what it looks like? maybe it looks good with varigated cables. Next time I'm at the grocery store (in a couple of weeks at least) I'll go looking eat the drink mixes.

Redying really won't hurt and might make it darker. Part the charm of hand dying is the uneveness of the dye. It will be pretty no matter what!

Oh! I thought we were polling on whether or not to dye the bunny (I would say no)...

Okay, then, I think re-dying what you've got might lesson the problem, but only slightly, but I know the pattern of which you type, and I think some mild tonal differences in the yarns won't matter too dreadfully. Knit up a swatch and see.

Good luck!

I like This froggy green colour, leave it as it is, my opinion. Greetings, iris

I'd say leave it, too. The uneven dye areas will give the socks their own unique character ;-)

Thanks for your visit to my blog and the nice comment about Charlotte!!

I've no experience with dye so I can't comment on that, but I wanted to point out that the box behind Twinky says "100g SMILING" and "CADBURY". He sure doesn't look like a smiling, 100g, chocolate bunny to me. Perhaps it was your remark about giving him a dye job? Look out!

Dye the bunny? No No!
Re-dye the yarn? Only if you want darker and lighter patches. When you have re-skeined, it will just look like variegated yarn. That's one of the 'features' of hand-dyed yarn.
I have read that if you add salt to your dye bath, it helps the dyes come out more evenly. It hasn't worked for me, but you can try it and let me know if it worked!
