My Blog

September 03, 2005

Well, Emily made her confirmation last night. She chose Judith as her confirmation name. (That was my mother's name and is actually already one of her middle names).

Our Church is very small, so there were only nine children making their confirmation, but it was a lovely service.
Of course, no event would be complete without a drama around here. My older sister was supposed to be Em's sponsor, but about 2 hours before the service, my 6 year old nephew fell off a fence, and broke his arm in two places. So my sister ended up spending the night at the hospital, and my mother stood in for her. My nephew had surgery this morning, and will be fine, but he apparently has a cast all the way up to his underarm.
Still, we are all far, far better off than many people in the world tonight.

The mystery shawl is blocked.

I am not happy with it :(
I love the yarn, I love the colours, I love the shawl pattern. Just not all together. The lace pattern is totally swallowed up by the colours. However, I did wrap it around myself while I sat at the computer last night, and it was quite nice, so all is not lost.
And the next project has been started! It will indeed be the Feather and Fan shawl from A Gathering of Lace.

Here is the start.

Not too far to go! ;)

I've started the mystery shawl in my shimmer, too. :) And from the looks of things, your feather and fan has a way to go--that's one on my "to do" list, but I'm doing so many other things right now!

If you knit really fast, you could probably get the new shawl done today! :)

Too bad you don't like the way the mystery shawl turned out. It looks pretty in the picture.

I've been drooling over that shawl ever since I bought GoL. I'm glad you're doing it! It's beautiful. You've printed out the errata for it from The Knitters Review, right?

The F&F shawl looks lovely. Might have to interlibrary loan the book. Don't forget to check the corrections for the book. There are lots! Though your edition might be okay, just depends on what edition it is.

Congrats to Emily on her confirmation! I don't remember picking a name for my confirmation..hmmm. The Feather and Fan shawl is gorgeous! Did you use the crochet ring (some lady's name) method to start? I wanted to try a circular shawl with my mohair/kid silk yarn but it was a disastrous start. I tangled everything and ended up cutting the knotted part off!

You Mystery scarf looks great. The colour is divine. Though I have to agree you cant see the lace pattern. Its still lovely though.

I would oneday love to start a Feather and Fan Shawl. I just need to get time! lol

So is Emily called Emily or Judith now? I think the shawl looks quite nice. Kinda like a sari!

Ahh, memories of confirmation. We all had to wear white ( brides of christ and all that) I would have worn green!! Shawl is lovely, and I am glad I am not imagining that Spotlight aren't helpful. If you know which pattern you want I could post a copy to you ( is that allowed???) Can't do anything about the yarn though!!

Congratulations Em on your confirmation.

Your mystery shawl looks great to me. It's hard to see the pattern in a photo when you're wearing it. But I bet it's gorgeous.

Had to laugh at the 'not long to go' comment.

Have you ever knitted the 'peacock feathers' shawl from fiddlesticks? That's what I've got a hankering for next. Although that Feather and Fan looks delicious too.....

Donna, the mystery shawl looks FANTASTIC - I know you have high standards and that you are a bit disapointed that the lace doesnt show too much - but boy oh boy the yarn looks lush! Donot be too sad I'm impressed!! :-) Sharon
