My Blog

September 30, 2005

Well, I haven't blogged about the shawl in a while, so we can all handle an update, I think.

As you can see, it doesn't look all that different, but trust me, it's growing.
I'm up to round 153, and I have over 1000 stitches on the needles. The rounds don't go very quickly any more!
And I'm feeling a little squished on the needle.

As you can see, it's getting to be a rather tight fit. I'm using a "Pony" brand circular, and it's 100cm long. The only longer needle I have is an Addi Turbo, and I don't think the mix of addi turbo and alpaca lace weight is something I'm ready to face.
So we'll soldier on, squished and all.
There are less than 40 rounds to go, but each one is taking upwards of 45 minutes now, so the end isn't close yet. And I don't think I have enough yarn, but I still have a hank and a half of the Alpaca cloud, so we'll see how far I get. I'm thinking that if all goes well, I might enter the shawl into the Sydney Royal Easter Show next year. The only shawl category they have is "Shetland Shawl" and I don't know what defines a Shetland Shawl. I may have to hunt down the information. *If* it comes out like I hope!
Em is dancing again tonight, so I'll be working on the Cardi back. I'll let you all know how much I get done!

I think thats a great choice of colour you have for that shawl. It looks pretty even though its all squished up.. You mentioned the circ is 100cm.. the shawl must be really big! (I've never knitted a shawl before, but squished on a 100cm circ sounds really big to me..) I can't wait to see the finished shawl!

Wow Donna - looks pretty nice. Beautiful colour. 1000 sts, I just cannot imagine knitting that many sts along one line! What size needle are you using?

Looking good! I've temporarily set my super spiral to the side in order to work on my Christmas knitting--if I don't start now, It's not going to get done!

I'm not quite sure what would qualify as a Shetland Shawl either, but right now I'm enjoying a workshop on Shetland Lace at the EZasPi yahoo group. Now I DO know that the Feather and Fan lace stitch pattern is a traditional Shetland pattern so you might be there.

I highly recommend checking out the group, but if you sign up, for goodness sake, put your email preference on either "digest" or "no mail". That's one chatty group, but they're all so nice and friendly.

I still love the photos anyway! It looks so soft and lovely. Can you imagine how exciting it will be when you take it off the needles and spread it out??!!!

Oh, it is going to be pretty!!

Well I must say after getting 40 rows of knitting done with 1000plus stitches in laceweight on the 100cm needle you will most certainly have faced all the big knitting phobias in one big hit.

Ain't no stopping you now.
