It was 24C here today! Can I get a hallelujah??
According to the news, yesterday was the hottest day in Sydney in 67 years. If we don't have those temperatures for another 67 years, I'll be more than happy.
So did I knit?
No. I tutu-ed.
I uploaded both pics, because neither one is right. It's closer to the dark pic than the light one, but it isn't quite that dark. However, the important bit is that all the tulle is now attached. I wish that were it, but I still have to make the bodice and basque, get it all together, sew in some kind of fastener, and flatten and decorate the damn thing.
But I'm glad all that tulle is done!
As I mentioned yesterday, it was hot. The person who seemed to suffer the most was our budgie, Fuzzy. At about 5pm, he was really distressed. He was on the bottom of his cage, panting with his wings spread out. I was really worried about him. So we got out a water spray bottle, filled it with cool water, then sprayed him down with it all afternoon. He spread his wings out and just sat there, letting us wet him until he was waterlogged.
I don't think he could have been wetter if we'd dumped a bucket of water over him. I'm pleased to say that he is doing much better today.
Now I'm going to go knit.

I have to say I am confused about Christmas in warm weather. I have been reading your recent posts and am jealous about the blue skies and the relaxing outdoors. Not jealous about the really hot temperatures, but the nice weather in general (and sunlight, how I miss sunlight).
But I have always lived in the northeast US, and I'm so sheltered I really can't imagine not freezing my a** off during the 12 days of Christmas.
Somewhere on earth there must be a middle ground, right?
Posted by: jessie at January 2, 2006 09:17 PMI don't blame you...I wouldn't knit in that heat either. I hope the cooler day means the heatwave has broken. The tutu looks great!
Posted by: wool winder at January 2, 2006 11:14 PM(0_0)48 deg C is insane. I'm glad for everyone, including your budgie, that its much cooler. Lets hope it stays that way. Interesting work on the tutu. I've never watched the progress of a tutu being made.

knit on girl!
that tutu is darling! i'm sure that was a headache to get together! LOL it looks wonderful.
Whew! Glad to hear Fuzzy is okay. Are you over that "ick" that Em gave you?
Posted by: Puggyspice at January 3, 2006 09:15 AMWe hit a record high in the 60s today. That's F scale here. Indiana is so not in the 60s in January. Which is why we had tornado watches since last evening and fierce Thunderstorms. Hope your heat wave breaks. Now we are back to cold temps the rest of the week.Brrr. Want me to send some your way?
Posted by: Chris at January 3, 2006 01:15 PMTamsin once drowned our budgie by 'washing' it with a hose - so don't dump a bucket of water on him!! (She was only two at the time, and we had to forgive her). And doing CPR on a budgie doesn't work.

Posted by: Samantha at January 4, 2006 02:39 AMFuzzy, you are a very pretty bird! I'm sure you loved your misty bath!!
Posted by: Kimberly at January 4, 2006 11:05 AMI'm sorry to say this as it's not my tale to tell but poor Donni's budgie didn't fare so well.
And I was sad my trees got scorched!
It was 45 at our place here near Burwood! One of my son's was visiting on Lake Macquarie when I heard freeway was shut. They live at Woy Woy. I rang just before they left and they unexpectedly stayed visiting overnight. Can you imagine a 5 months baby in a car stopped on the freeway in that heat?
When they got home this morning, they had burnt patches on what passed for grass (very dry)in their back yard. Burning embers had tried to light but the grass was fortunately so short they didn't keep going. Their house is close to the Phegan's Bay stretch of water, but on Woy Woy side. But with those winds, either from north or south it was just like being next door.
