July 11, 2006
Busy, busy, busy. So busy in fact, that I'm blogging at 11.30pm, when I should be long in bed, and I haven't knit a stitch in two days.
And I'm missing it sorely. I need the stress relief.
The dance comp.
On Saturday afternoon and evening, Em competed in two sections. Each section required two dances. The first was the ballet section, and required a character dance first.
Em's character dance is a Snake Charmer.
Then she had to do her classical routine.
See the trophy? First place!
A little bit later on, her second section was a tap section and required two tap dances.
This is her first one.
This is her second.
See the trophies? First place again! Way to go, Em!
Did I get the scarf done?
You bet I did! I finished it at the comp on Saturday night. I also finally finished Em's fluffy socks on Saturday.
She's pretty happy with them, and has declared them a perfect fit. She also doesn't want to take them off! (First pic is much more accurate colourwise)
As long as she doesn't go telling all her friends I'll knit a pair for them!
To anyone who I owe an email to, my sincere apologies. I'm flat out keeping up with all the crap I've let slide, and I'm exhausted. My house is a pigsty and the sewing I'm being paid to do is seriously behind. And it's all stressing me out just a little.
I'm having difficulty finding time to knit over the past week and a half or so, and when I do find the time, I'm lacking motivation. I'm working on a pile of stuff I've promised to other people, and right now it feels like obligation knitting, not knitting for enjoyment.
If it wasn't for loved ones, I'd throw it all aside, but it is for loved ones, and I know they appreciate what I make for them. It's just not inspiring!
I've been promising myself that I can knit all sorts of wonderful things just as soon as I finish the second Fair Isle glove, and one or two other small projects. But I might need to start somehting gorgeous just to kick the motivation into gear.
I just happen to have a single ball of Cashmerino Aran, and the new Knitty has a rather fetching pattern which just happens to call for a single skein of Cashmerino Aran.
Hmm.

Way to go Emily! The costumes are amazing! Do you have any pics of the dancing, you know, action shots? Yipee for a pair of fuzzy ankle socks! I find that socks are the only knitting I can do these days....lack of commitment to longer projects maybe? But I just started a tank top for my sister's birthday - I have 10, no 9 days to get it done. Think it'll happen? I'm taking it with me everywhere....we'll see if any knitting actually takes place.
Posted by: Evelyn at July 11, 2006 02:51 AMshe is lovely. and the snake charmer picture is priceless. Love those fuzzy socks.

Fantastic costumes Donna and yes the fetching pattern is fun. And the yarn is sooooooo soft:)I am thinking about sneaking out to get more in another colour.
Em is just beautiful in all her costuming!! Don't worry about replying to me, I totally understand being inundated with everything!!

I know how the ever increasing pile of work feels in right under it now. Chin up there is a light somewhere down the track again.

Posted by: Michelle at July 11, 2006 02:45 PMWow! Way to go, Em!! Thinking of you Donna with all that is piled up on your plate. One day at a time, one step at a time, one job at a time. I have come to hate that obligation knitting though!
Posted by: nat at July 11, 2006 03:25 PMWell done Em!! Well done you too, it is a hard job being a 'dancing mum' too!! The fluffy socks are fantastic!!!! Hope you have some knitting for you too soon!!
Posted by: 2paw at July 11, 2006 05:59 PMsupurb!!! well done em!! and how good does that tu tu look??
Posted by: the stripey tiger at July 11, 2006 08:03 PMCongratulations to Em...so talented! The tutu looks great on her. It's worthy of a first place trophey too.
Now you've got me interested in the fingerless gloves. Just printed the pattern. It wouldn't take you long to make them and it would help you get through your obligation knitting.
Posted by: wool winder at July 12, 2006 01:33 AMEmily looks great in all of her costumes. Did you make all of them. I seem to be at the same place as you at the moment, knitting for other people but really I am not that motivated. Maybe after a big spring clean I will be able to sit and knit as long as I like. I hope your knitting motivation comes back soon.
Posted by: Sue at July 12, 2006 10:58 AMHey Donna
Congrats to Em - she looks just great. I know what you mean about being flat out busy, but don't forget to take time out for yourself. Take care.
Posted by: Meaghan at July 12, 2006 04:53 PMCongratulations Em! Wow! First place!!! That is awesome. :) The socks and scarf look great. :)
Posted by: Samantha at July 13, 2006 01:21 AMCongratulations to Em for her trophies, and to Donna for surviving such a stressful time!! You sound exhausted...definitely take one day at a time, and put the obligation knitting away for a bit and work on those gloves. Then you'll come back with renewed energy (least that's what I'm telling myself with the projects I'm dreading working on...) :) :)
Posted by: Debby at July 13, 2006 07:36 AMPass along to Em my (belated) congratulations as well. And to you, WOW, what great costumes ... you scare the #@$% outta me, lol.
Posted by: Jade at July 15, 2006 04:56 AMFrom alurker-your daughter is beautiful, and talented too! Your costumes look great. More pics of Twinkie, please!

Congratulations to Em for her First place trophys! The fuzzy socks are so cute. Sometimes you just need to take a break from knitting so don't worry about it/
