Picture heavy post ahead!
We've been busy little beavers at Casa Del Random.
But first, it's Saturday, so it's Saturday Sky time!
No perfect blue sky today. It's raining, but no one is complaining, becasue we need it. Let's hope it's raining over the dams though.
Twinkie is unimpressed.
Lots of knitting happening, finally!
The second Fair Isle glove is finally seeing some action.
There's cuff. I'm past the corrugated ribbing, which really is the part I hate the most. My sister in law will be here for a visit in two weeks, and the gloves are for her, so I really need to get busy with these.
And I finished David's first glove.
I figure that I did one Fair Isle glove, then one of his, now I'm on the second Fair Isle, then I'll do the second of his. I'm not sure how he likes that idea. At least one of his hands will be warm!
I got it into my head that I'd like to start Peacock Feathers.
I have this gorgeous Possum/Merino yarn that my good friend Meaghan gave me, and I'd hoped to use that.
The colours aren't quite as bright as they appear here, and I love it, but I swatched and the yarn is a little too thick for the pattern.
So I went through the stash, and found some Centolavaggi. But it was white, so I decided to have a play with some dye.
Bad idea.
I didnt' take pictures along the way, but I wanted a green. The only green dye I have on hand is a bit pale, so I added some turquoise, hoping to darken it. It came out too dark, so I redyed it. It was too bright, so I added some purple.
I don't like it. Especially for this pattern.
The picture isn't quite right (my kitchen benchtop is definitely not yellow!). It's a jewel tone sapphire, with lighter blues through it.
I'll never use it, it's just not my colour.
If anyone is interested in a swap of some kind, let me know. Otherwise, I think it'll go up on eBay.
And I have to start again for Peacock Feathers.
You think I'd learn. Every time I try to start a new project when there's something else I should be working on (like the Fair Isle gloves) the results are disastrous. Every time.
Em finished Imogen's hat!
She also knitted the other things you see here, the jacket and the bag. There is a slight problem witht he jacket, which is awaiting my attention. She didn't leave a long enough yarn tail, and her cast off edge started to unravel, so I've undone some of the crochet edge to start the work, but haven't actually gotten around to the repairs. There may also be an end or five that require weaving in.
Another thing Em made yesterday is..
A mess!
Oops, sorry, I meant cupcakes.
Her baking skills are definitely not inherited from me.
And finally, yesterday I spent most of the day making this.
A tiara-y thing for Em's newest dance. No costume yet, but that'll happen. Eventually.
It's not quite finished, I need to cover the visible wire, but I'm pretty impressed with myself.
If you look at the picture of her in her tutu a few posts back, she is wearing something similar. I paid a rather exorbitant amount of money to have that one made, and decided to give it a go. Voila!
But now she wants a beaded headpiece for every dance.
Not happening, dudette.

LOL perhaps you could tell David he only needs one glove cause he needs the other hand free for cooking :P
Posted by: Carol at July 15, 2006 06:30 PMOh wow!! The headpiece is gorgeous!
And maybe Em can take over the cooking/baking duties around the house soon :)
Posted by: claudine at July 15, 2006 07:20 PMGreat work all around and well todays weather has helped some knitters but not us who spent the arvo making dorset buttons
Posted by: tianne at July 15, 2006 09:16 PMOH What a great glove!! Love your dye job!! It's AWESOME!!! My favorite colors too! whats the yardage, weight, yarn fiber etc...and what are you looking for?
Posted by: Michelle at July 15, 2006 10:31 PMThats a really pretty tiara! The dye job doesn't look bad actually.. And the dark blue glove's cuff is really interesting.. Is it 'smock'-ed or cabled?
Posted by: kessa at July 16, 2006 02:14 AMYou sure are multi - talented! Cooking is not so important especially when your daughter's already behind it!
Posted by: Monika at July 16, 2006 03:14 AMI love the tiara. Way to go. Maybe you can teach Em how to make one and then she CAN have one for every ballet costume.
Posted by: Sue at July 16, 2006 04:55 AMWohoo, a cuff! Once you get the cuff started, you know the rest of it isn't far off. Your blueish dyed yarn is actually a very peacock color! The peacock shawl looks gorgeous....somewhat scary for me to attempt but very lovely. Em's doll is so decked out in knitwear! I love the little beret. Now that you're making a tiara, is your next crafty thing going to be jewelry? ;-)
Posted by: Evelyn at July 16, 2006 05:45 AMYou have been busy. I wish I could show some progress on something. But lace just looks like a blob!
Posted by: Chris at July 16, 2006 12:36 PMBunnies, cupcakes and tiaras... Always good!
=:8
It seems that Emily is multi talented as well. Clever girls, and I absolutely love Emily's doll. I think one day when Isabelle is bigger I might buy her one. If I remember correctly they are quite expensive when I visited their shop. Nice job on the tiara too. Maybe Emily needs to learn how to make them too then you can both do them for her dances, and you might have more time to knit.
Posted by: Sue at July 16, 2006 06:33 PMNice tiara, clever person you. And Em can cook, way to go. Em you have done a really lovely job on Imogen, she is gorgeous.
Posted by: Annie at July 16, 2006 11:51 PMEm is such a beautiful and talented girl. How proud you must be!
Posted by: Becky at July 18, 2006 07:57 AMI know you'll finish the FI glove. You have a deadline to motivate you.
Posted by: wool winder at July 19, 2006 07:48 AMWow...I am tired just reading about all the goings on at Casa del Random! Gorgeous gloves and absolutely amazing tiara! Maybe Em would make a trade...so many days cooking while you are working on her tiaras?! She did such a beautiful job on her doll too, I almost want one for myself! Does she make her own patterns, or are there patterns written for this particular doll?
Sorry to read about your dye mistake...hopefully you'll find a good trade and it will all work out OK!!

You go girl!! Not only does she take awesome photos, she knits, and does beautiful bead work and sewing!! Multi-talented, so who cares about the cooking/baking skills.
I'm glad you picked the Fair Isle back up. I know you will have it done in time.
