Look what I got.
This book is just gorgeous. And my wish list just got a lot longer. If I knit everything that's on that list, I really need to find a way to live about 100 more years than the average human being.
This list of things I want to knit from this book alone is about a mile long. Why is nearly everything I want to knit made from laceweight? If I liked more things knit in Aran weight, my list would move a whole lot faster.
Like the Lace Panel Sweater, which is moving along very nicely, thank-you-very-much!
Half way up the front, and all is well so far. I'm enjoying this knit immensely, in fact. The fact that it's going so quickly might explain a large part of that.
As a result, Spring Blossoms is being sadly neglected. I haven't even picked it up in days.
I may have accidently started something else though. Not the Krista tee! I've managed to resist ordering the kit. So far. I do look at it about 5 times a day though.
I had to go to an appointment near the city yesterday, and in my infinite wisdom I decided to catch the train. The stop I had to go to is on my train line, and yet I had to catch three different trains to get there.
You go, Cityrail!!
Anyway, I decided that the sweater was too big for the train. i took along my beautiful new book, but I decided to start a sock, too.
Pomatomus. Yes, I'm a bit late to the party, as usual. Why dd nobody tell me what fun this pattern is? The yarn is KnitPicks Sock Memories in Easter, which is sadly discontinued. The minute Emily saw the colours, she claimed it. She hasnt had new socks in a while, so I grabbed this yarn from the stash, printed out the pattern and hopped on the train(s).
What a dilemma. I couldn't decide whether to knit or read, and the pattern is a little complicated for both at once. So I'd read a bit, knit a bit, get off the train. Read a bit, knit a bit, get on the train. Read a bit, knit a .... oh, you get the idea.
And I had my first ever approach from a stranger about knitting in public while sitting on Strathfield station. (Waiting for a train - theres a surprise!)
It was a youngish guy, looked like a bit of a nohoper, but I may just be casting aspersions of course.
He walked past me, stopped, then walked back. I made sure my bag was nice and close, then realised he was looking at my knitting, not my purse.
He siad "What are you making?", so I told him it was a sock. "And you need all those needles?" I explained that is was knit in the round, so it would be seamless. He just stood there for a minute or two, watching me knit. Then he said "That's incredible" and walked away.
I'm glad he walked away, becasue I didn't quite know what to say!

lol - that's a funny KIP train story
Shall I teach you to knit? could have been amuzing. Then again maybe giving him pointy sticks wouldn't have been such a good idea.
Posted by: Carol at November 24, 2006 08:50 PMYeah!!! I got that book too, have been hanging out since July to get it. I posted a couple of pics on my blog. Did you have a look? It's a really gorgeous book and now my to do lace knitting list just got much much longer. Oh if only there were more then 24 hours in a day.
Posted by: Helen at November 24, 2006 09:03 PMThe Hippo socks are beautiful, lucky Em!!! he lace panel jumper is looking very swish too!! What a brave young man to approach you to ask about your knitting. Non-knitters think we are the wool equivalent of nuclear physicists I think!!!
Posted by: 2paw at November 24, 2006 10:12 PMwow, i love the way that the colors are coming out on that sock.
Posted by: marti at November 25, 2006 04:10 AMLove the colors of Emily's new sock. Glad the boy was only interested in the sock knitting, and maybe he will become a future knitter some day. It seems everyone is buying that book, it must have some beautiful patterns in it. I love the new knit too, very pretty and arent quick knits so good.
Posted by: Sue at November 25, 2006 08:14 AMGorgeous sock! I love the way the colours are pooling. I am also coveting that book, but I think it will be quite a while until my circumstances allow a purchase of that magnitude. In the meantime, I'll just stalk you :)
Posted by: Lara at November 25, 2006 08:28 AMI am SO getting that book.
I've printed out pomo pattern but have been a bit scared to try it so good to hear you are enjoying it!
I wanted to get that book too. But When I think of how long my list is, I decided to skip it. The KP yarn knits up really nicely.. lol about the guy. I've been approached a few times while knitting in public, but none of them were too memorable. People around here are satisfied to take sneaky glances.
Posted by: kessa at November 25, 2006 04:13 PMI might have to try those socks myself....I think I still have a couple of skeins of that yarn (in a different colorway) floating somewhere around the house....
Posted by: Cathy at November 26, 2006 08:53 AMWow, the LPJ front is looking fabulous. I'm SO eager for my yarn to arrive now so I can start mine. The last time (first time) I visited your blog, you hooked me on the Krista Tee, now I see those Pomatomus socks of yours and I'm mesmerized. I wasn't enamoured with the pattern before now, so maybe it is the yarn you are using too. It's really lovely. Darn it. Now there's another addition to my 'to-do' list! :o)
Posted by: Terri at November 26, 2006 11:00 AMi know i said this many times but this time, i'm serious. my resolution for 2007 is to learn how to knit socks!! it's a must!! i'm so jealous looking at all your beautiful socks!!
hahaha...getting a bit agressive over there. i love your blue dpsn too!!
Posted by: Michelle at November 27, 2006 12:20 PMi've been trying to fight off temptation, but when i saw the book taking such a prominent place on your blog, i nearly faltered. you shouldn't tempt people like that! *grinz*
Posted by: karyn at November 27, 2006 01:36 PMPackage? *she asks sheepishly*
Posted by: Cece at November 28, 2006 03:29 AMThanks for your nice comments. Lace knitting has been on my wish list for a long time but I have never had the time to give it a go. The Pomatomus socks is another must knit & will love to see yours when it's completed - such nice colors. What about knitting your socks toe up to avoid grafting (which I dislike too).
Posted by: Ann Lim at November 28, 2006 08:21 AMI havent done the Potomus socks yet...They scare me! lol Yours look gorgeous though.
Ooooh that guy sounded a little creepy!! Good to see he can admire knitting..but maybe he needs to work on his approach!!
