My Blog

December 07, 2006

So the dance concert is over, and for a little while I have my life back. Or so I thought. My just-barely-teenaged daughter has gone and got herself a social life. Stuck to my fridge are four party invitations. There's also the senior's night out for dancing coming up, and a multitude of other social events, including my niece's dance concert this weekend. All before Christmas, bar one of the parties.

She has a better social life than I do!

Some pics from the concert.

I actually took heaps more photos, but they all have other kids in them, and I don't have permission to put them up here. I'd hate for someone to come across a picture of themselves. Although seeing as no-one I know knows about this blog, it's highly unlikely.

Knitting! Isn't that what this blog used to be about?
There's been a little. Hopefully now there can be a lot more.
The Lace Panel Sweater sleeves are growing.

They're looking very narrow. I don't have skinny little stick arms. I'm getting worried. Nat? You knit the other cardi from the book, and the sleeves look similar. Opinions?
However, I'm going to ignore than gut feeling and knit on. Bet I'll regret that later on.
What else?
P-p-p-p-p-socks.

I was charging on down the leg to the hell, with only 12 rows to geo, when I realised that I'd forgotten to move the stitches around at the start of the last repeat, and 12 rows had to be frogged. Live and learn.
The other side looks like a totally different sock.

And the purple blob, previously known as Spring Blossoms.

Looks exactly the same as the last time I showed it. I've not touched it at all. I'm not even sure what I've done with my chart which shows me where I'm up to, which may be a problem. I'm sure it's here somewhere.

Christmas? I'm in denial.

That's where the christmas tree should be. I'm having some anxiety issues with putting it up. Earlier in the year, we replaced our end tables with these stash boxes. The tree goes on the table. There's nowhere else to put the tree in our little house. So, it has to go onto my stash box.
What if I want something from in there? All my sock yarn is in there. I had a fleeting moment where I considered emptying the box, just in case, but I realised I have nowhere to put the yarn. Maybe I can use it to decorate the tree. Then it'll be right at hand!
Mind you, it'll only be up for three weeks or so, and I'm sure that the other yarn around the house will keep me busy until then. But what if??
So I got some more yarn, just in case.

Because you never know. 3 skeins of Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette, intended for Faina's Scarf, and a skein of Merino Cashmere Sock, in "Water Lilies", both from The Knittery. Like I said, just in case.

You are so funny with those stash boxes. I would pull the yarn out and stick it on the tree. In fact, there was a store at the mall a few weeks ago that had yarn balls on the tree in the window. It wasn't a yarn shop either!!

Em looks great!! I am glad for you that the dancing is over for the time being. Too bad we don't get the social life anymore. Sometimes I miss it.

Those socks are so cool looking. I have no socks on the needles right now, just a scarf and a sweater that I haven't touched since September.

Em looks really pretty :)

The only Christmas tree that I have at home is a really tiny small one that can be put on top of my side table. That's it. I'm not getting one as my furry babies lives indoor and I do not want to imagine what they will do to the tree when nobody's around.

Aaaaah...more yarns...I wish I can buy more too!! Your ppppp socks is looking great!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Our tree will go up....eventually!

That sock is so pretty. Now seeing your LPJ sleeves, they do look a bit narrow. I'm not sure what to think. I'm a long way off starting the sleeves, so I'm hoping that between you and Nat, it will get figured out before I get there. Well hey, there has to be some benefit to be so far behind everyone else. :o) Your daughter is going to break hearts one day. :o)

Ummm, the sleeve from the Ladder Stitch cardi was fitted, but not too tight, but it was in keeping with the fitted look of the cardi. I was thinking this was more of a relaxed fit, and maybe if the fit of the body is relaxed then fitted arms may look odd. Not really an answer, but I guess we'll find out what is going on with the pattern together ;)

Em looks goregous, of course!! Love that cashmere. My mom has been working on that Faina scarf for a while but hasn't settled on a yarn she likes. It will be interesting to watch yours progress.

Those socks may be the coolest I've seen yet!

Oh, and, as always, Em is lovely ;-)

All your knits are gorgeous. I especially love those socks! The colouring in them is wild! :)

What a beautiful girl your daughter is, you must be so proud of her. The socks are gorgous, love the pattern as well as the colours of the yarn. I don't have socks on the needles right now, just 2 scarves and a shawl, but the socks will be starting anyday now as a friend asked me to knit her a pair for when she goes to the US in January. She even chose her yarn from my stash. hehe.

Em is gorgeous,
you'll grow to love
"pick me up at ----".
I love Daphne's yarn.

Great socks! Hmm, just in case is always a problem I find. It's Murphy's Law you know, you may end up finding just the right pattern for one of those skeins under the Chrisie tree. Our tree isn't up yet either, hopefully tomorrow will be the day. I'm knitting toe ups with the merino cashmere at the moment, I got it from TheKnittery too, the colour is ForestMoss, it's gorgeous to knit with.

I can totally relate to the daughter's social life, and mine is only 5 and has parties all over the place to go to. Maybe I need to get out more, but that would mean less knitting time. The sleeves are looking fabulous, and I love the new yarn you purchased. Beautiful.

You could always take all the yarn out of the stash box and "store"it at my place :P

LOL I love the just in case excuse to buy even more yarn.

Em is looking beautiful and I know she did a great job!!! Is she grateful for the break or is she missing dance already? If I were her, I'd claim the p-sock too. There's something about the way those colors are patterning around the leg that is so intriguing!

Thank you for showing the Louisa Harding book in your previous post. I haven't seen it, but it looks like a good book to get, as does the Victorian Lace. I could so relate when you wrote that everything you want to knit is in laceweight and will take us 10 lifetimes!!! I am drawn to it like a moth to a flame, sigh.

I hope the Christmas tree goes up without incident for you. I have had trouble with my lights and it has taken so long to get them on right!

Your daughter looks gorgeous! I'm sure she did a great job at the dance concert! She sounds like she has quite the social life. I might secretly wish mine was that exciting, but I'm sure in reality I would tire of it far too easily! :-)
