Saturday sky on a Sunday morning.
Another lovely Sydney day, and only 28C.
We went out and bought some flowers. At this point, I should let you know that my gardening skills are right up there with my cooking skills.
So I'll show you pictures now, while they're still alive and healthy.
Miniature apricot roses.
Sweet William. Pretty, for now.
The purple blob is ongoing. However, it isn't always convenient to work on a shawl that currently has 850ish stitches, so when I can't work on that, I'm working the p-p-p-p socks.
I'm past the heel! And the gusset shaping! On the way down the foot! Then they'll be done! I'm only allowing myself to work on these two projects, because otherwise they'll both get tossed aside and never done.
And frankly, at this stage, I'll be glad to see them both done.
As you are all probably will aware, I have a great love of laceweight yarns. Up until recently, there was little or no quality, affordable laceweight yarns in Australia. There is a much better selection here now, (especially of my beloved Zephyr, thank you Yarns Online!), but despite the fact that we couldn't get much locally, I have still managed to build up a half decent stash of the stuff.
I was sitting, knitting on the purple blob on Friday night, and dreaming of new projects. So I started to mentally list the lace weight stash. Then I was a bit amazed at the amount I thought I had, so I got up and wrote it down.
I have 23,200 yards of laceweight yarns.
And that's only counting the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I haven't actually gone and checked it yet.
20 kilometres. That's a lot of shawls waiting for me.
Twinkie fainted at the idea.
Or maybe she was just flopped out on the bathroom floor, staying cool.

Now that's a lot of yarn!!! Maybe you are planning on trailing it behind you when you go out so you can find your way home:p
No, you are planning on making impossibly gorgeous shawls that make my head spin.
At least I get to drawl over the pictures when your lace is all knitted up :)
If we were ever weathered in you will be fine just set you up and you can knot away. IM sure Twinkie had the right idea and found a cool spot today in the humid heat we had.
Come on get those socks done and the shawl it will be nice to something other than a purple blob wont it
Posted by: Tianne at January 14, 2007 09:45 PMIt's bad that I didn't get you as a pal in the lace swap, I should have sent you the most gorgeous Swedish lace weight yarn.... made from Swedish wool.
Oh, well, I guess you have enough! That's a lot of lace weight yarn.... I have much, but nowhere near that. I think. Hmmm, I woder if I dare to check?
Posted by: Marika at January 14, 2007 10:42 PMI dare even think how many yards (miles?) of fabric I have stashed away. Twinkine wouldn't just faint, she'd be 'toes up' - poor thing ;-)
Posted by: shan at January 14, 2007 10:49 PMI loved every picture today to bits. I want to snuggle the bunny (who probably wouldn't be into it, in the heat), and play with the yarn, and sit outside and look at the flowers and the sky. Actually, our sky in the Bay Area kinda looks like that way today... but it. is. freezing. Enjoy your sunny days! :-)
Posted by: Janet at January 15, 2007 07:10 AMI'm sure all that yarn will not stop you from buying more ;)
Posted by: kylie at January 15, 2007 08:48 AMWow what a lot of laceweight yarn. I love Meaghan's site too, but I am lucky I dont knit lace (yet). I think I would be in big trouble if I started adding that to the stash too. I am knitting from stash for the next 8 months so it can hopefully be reduced quite a bit, and then I will be able to save some money for other things that we need too. Isnt the weather weird at the moment, we are going to have one hot week this week, and I am already waiting for colder weather.
Posted by: Sue at January 15, 2007 09:22 AMso much yarns???? i think i will join twinkie and faint!! hahahaha :) that pppp socks is growing lovely!!!
Posted by: Michelle at January 15, 2007 11:57 AMLOVE Sweet Williams! They'll never let you down and they re-seed. What could go wrong?
Thanks for the Twinkie fix.
Posted by: jessie at January 15, 2007 09:27 PMSuch eye candy for us to see: sky, flowers, Pomatomus, and of course... TWINKIE! I am glad that she is coming around. Funny how food can be used to bribe them, eh? ;)
=:8
Yeah that's a lot of shawls. I still like the P-p-p-p socks. You haven't put me off the pattern yet. Hey my LPJ is finished if you want to go take a peek. :o)
Posted by: Terri at January 16, 2007 01:53 PMAhh lace. Have you considered the Heere be Dragone shawl. See it at http://criminyjickets.blogspot.com/2006/09/dragone-details.html
I'm about half way through, and am finding it an enjoyable knit (I'm using Zephyr). The lack of repeats keeps me interested - I find the constant pattern repeats of most lace gets tiresome quite quickly. The pattern can be bought as a pdf so you don't need to pay postage.
Posted by: Susan at January 16, 2007 04:21 PMI can so relate to your limiting yourself to two projects just to finish them. I'm slogging it out on the lace shawl -- knitted all weekend but the ball of yarn hasn't shrunk at all! I am into the second "extra" repeat now too.
Can't wait to see what other lace shawls you're dreaming about! Did you get the Victorian Lace book yet? I don't have it but hope to get a copy eventually. Hello to Twinkie!
Posted by: Debby at January 17, 2007 07:16 AMI'm starting to think you've got more than me......scary, but at least I know where to go to get some more if I run out......are you taking wholesale enquiries????!!

Ohhh, warm, blue sky, please send some quick.......It is so cold here and will be for the most of the next week. We still have frozen snow in the front yard where the sun has not hit it. Pretty flowers, another sign of Spring, that I am sure must be out there somewhere. Kim has an African Violet that is almost in bloom. The only time it has been in bloom is when we bought it several years ago. It must have sensed I needed to flower fix. Wow, that's a lot of laceweight. I've been wondering about my sock yarn. That might be on my agenda for next week, measure the sock yarn. Take care.
