The Jo Sharp cardi is finito!
Well, the knitting is. I have yet to block or seam it.
Last night, I was picking up the stitches for the front band, and it occurred to me that some people may be having the same difficulty I used to have with the line "Pick up x number of stitches evenly around the neckline"

It used to drive me batty. It would say to pick up 50 stitches evenly, and I'd pick up 30 really close together and 20 spaced much further apart, and I'd have to rip it out and start over. Again and again.
Then a really simple idea hit me, and it's been much simpler ever since.

Pins. Duh.
Maybe I'm just a dope who did everything the hard way, and every one else has already thought of this.
The Jo Sharp cardi required that I pick up 46 stitches along the V-neck sharping. I measured the part where I had to pick up the stitches, then I marked it in 4 even spaces. Then I picked up 11 between the first two pins, 12 between the next two, 11 in the third section and 12 at the end.
Personally, I find this much easier than trying to work out how to pick up 46 evenly.

What's next? Hmmm... here is a list of the things I really want to knit as soon as I can.

My Kitri sock kit.
The Fern Garden Stole.
The Hanging Garden Stole.
Heere be Dragone Shawl.
My Sea Silk.
Finish the new socks I was designing.
A V neck raglan sweater in Cleckheaton Country Silk.

That's it. Well, that's what I would cast on this very minute if I had 500 hours in a day.
For now, I've started a stashbusting project. More info next time!

Twinkie is in disgrace. Remember the new couch we got back in May?

While you can't see the actual damage very well, the wooden frame is visible on the corner. I almost considered rabbit pie for dinner.
Almost.

Thanks for the tip - I just cast on a new project tonight that I am going to need to pick up a randome number of stitches for (I had to be clever and modify the pattern). This is going to be useful!

Sorry Twinkie customised your furniture - I seem to remember promising you some rabbit treats to prevent this kind of thing, but I am hopeless with mail...

Ooooh! I love the dragon shawl! Where did you get the pattern?

In case you are interested, there is a Yahoo group I joined for the Dragone Shawl. I completely understand about the couch. The day ours was delivered into our "new" house, Jessica decided to nibble a couple of holes in it! Needless to say, if I have to photograph items on the couch, the holes are strategically hidden.

Okay, WHERE do I get the pattern for the dragon shawl????

MrsDrWho recommends chilli powder sprinkled on the couch, I squirt The Labradors with lemon juice!!! I usually pick up 3 stitches for every 4 rows, but I do pin at half way, you are far more organised!! It is like sewing ribbing onto a neck really. You have so many new things ready to go!!!

Oh my goodness - your couch!! I would have been mortified. Our dog chewed the legs of one of our dining chairs when he was a pup, but thankfully he's grown out of that now and never did anything else destructive. Do rabbits grow out of this sort of thing? I'm thinking not as don't they need to gnaw on stuff to keep their teeth short?
Don't worry. It took me a while to figure out the pin trick with the pick up stitches thing too. ;o) Looking forward to seeing that one finished!

Oh Dear,naughty Twinkie,
I will post a picture of our lounge, its awful,I hated it anyway(Hubby bought it as a surprise welcome when we moved over here,)I have the first choice in a second hand one from a work collegue who is going to buy a smaller one for her lounge room,I see no reason to buy a new one around $2500 when I can get a really good second hand one for a few hundred that has hardly any wear! I was hoping though that a fabric lounge would not be attractive to big teeth!

Ohhhhhhh naughty, naughty Twinkie.
Funny how Twinkie's behaviour immediately made me almost forget about the knitting content. Hopefully it's not as hot over there as it is here and you can get those pieces all sewn up.

And I forgot to ask, what colour cleckheaton country silk are you planning on using? I just made Fetchings out of it and it is nice to knit with, I may need some more.

Naughty Twinkie chewing your brand new couch. Our kittens have been chewing little tufts of carpets in the doorway of our bedroom, so now we have had to tuck back in the piece of carpet that they pulled apart so there isnt a gap. You would think they would respect our things a bit more since we let them live in the house dont you. I cant wait to see the Jo Sharp cardi finished up too.

Ooooops, bad Twinkie. Ah well, it isn't really noticeable, and rabbit pie would give you indigestion.
Love the dragon stole, and others I've seen at that site. Hope they sell the patterns.
Thanks for the tip re picking up stitches. Been knitting for years and didn't think of that. lol
