Wow, I love putting pictures of my finished projects up here, you guys are far more responsive than anyone who sees these things in my real life. Excepting Ailsa who saw it last week, and my wonderful SnB group, who will see it next week.
Knitters. Most of them are the best people I know.
So while I was having David take pictures of the shawl on Sunday, I got him to take a picture of the Jo Sharp cardi, too.
I have cut off my head as a Publoc safety measure. I had a migraine, and it wasnt pretty.
I love this cardi! I do wish it was a little smaller, though. Jacqui is planning to make it, and she did some calculations, and believes there's a problem with the pattern. She's contacted Jo Sharp, and they agree that the maths is off, so beware if you plan to make it too. You might want to do the maths and make appropriate adjustments.
I'm not so put off that I want to frog it and remake it though!
It was a little cool here on Sunday, and Em was performing at the local club, where they always have the airconditioning up too high, so I wore it, and I love it. It's soft, and warm and comfortable like something you've had for years.
I've half contemplated making one in black.
Another finished project to show, too!!
Do you think she likes it?
This was a fun knit! It's the Ladybug headband from the Spring 2007 Knitscene, knit in Zara. I had an almost complete ball, and it took most of that. I'd say probably three quarters of a ball in total. It only took a couple of hours, and I used up leftovers, so it's all good.
A few people have asked what I have planned next.
I'm undecided right now. The next big project will probably be either a sweater for me, the "Heere Be Dragone" shawl, or the Shetland Shawl from A Gathering of Lace.
Before I start any of those things though, our SnB group is having an exhibition in mid-April. I have a few things that need to be done for that, so I'll get them out of the way first.
One of the things I'm working on is a Tea Set.
I'm knitting it in Bendigo 8ply (DK) cotton, which is a lighter yarn than recommended, but it'll do just fine, I don't think gauge is a huge issue here. It is knit tighter than usual to give it a little stiffness, but these need to be starched, because they are still far too floppy. That is a sugar bowl and lid, and the pitcher, with a half done lid. I have yet to knit the teacups, the saucers and the milk jug. It's very cute, but I'm not the biggest fan of knitting with cotton. I have afew other things planned for the exhibition, but I'll have to see how I go for time - the exhibition is less than four weeks away.
All sydneysiders, you are more than welcome to come to the exhibition, in fact we'd love to see you. The Courthouse is right across the road from the beach, so bring the family, have a picnic lunch, make a day of it.
Finally, we had a very pretty visitor today.
He was the prettiest little bird! He's a Red-rumped parrot. He almost blended into the grass until he turned around, and we got a glimpse of the glorious red patch on his back.
I could have sat and watched him all afternoon. I think we need a new pet bird.
Comments
The sweater is lovely. Looks like one you want to grab and wrap up in all day long. I am wanting to make one like that, just need to find yarn and a simple pattern.
Posted by: Chris at March 21, 2007 11:55 PMLove the headband! I can think of five little girls who I should make one for. (And what a great project to use up stash!)
Posted by: becky c. at March 22, 2007 12:50 AMI love that sweater! It really doesn't look too big in the picture.
I have the same experience in real life with comments on my hand knits. Non-knitters don't think about fiber the way we do and usually can't recognize a hand knit from store bought.
Great little headband.
Posted by: wool winder at March 22, 2007 01:09 AMThe cardi is simple and great looking. It's something you are sure to get a lot of wear out of. I like the lighter color - good for spring. A little big can be a good thing, especially if this means you're doing great on your weight loss goals! It must be nice to have someone who soooo appreciates the stuff you knit for her! Take advantage of it before she's a full grown teenager!
Posted by: Evelyn at March 22, 2007 04:03 AMThe cardi looks great and the stole is awesome! I just finished my first lace project not long ago and I know a lot of work must have gone into that stole, beautiful!
Posted by: Christina at March 22, 2007 06:00 AMThe cardi looks great on you. Thank you for the warning about checking math with Jo; I'll remember that when I get to knitting something from her book.
Em looks so happy; she has a great smile. I love your little visitor too...how pretty!
Posted by: Debby at March 22, 2007 06:18 AMThe cardi is wonderful. I will have to look into that pattern. The bird is awesome! I had forgotten where you lived and was stunned! What a fabulous treat!
Posted by: KaKi at March 22, 2007 06:47 AMDarn I missed another round of commenting on all of your beautiful FOs! I lurve the shawl!! And the sweater is purty and the headband is so cute! But that's because Em's so cute.
Posted by: monica at March 22, 2007 08:10 AMThe cardi looks great! Very comfortable. And I lovelovelove the teaset. I'd love to make one for myself (I just wonder what I'd do with it once made!!) Great idea for the exhibition!
Posted by: Rose Red at March 22, 2007 09:04 AMI love the cardy, and yes a black one is a must.
What I want to know is how are you going to keep Twinkie paw prints off it once we actually get some cooler weather and rain???
Oh we had two of them in our yard after the rain. I wanted to photograph them but the battery died. Lovely.
That cardigan is EXACTLY what I would make if I were to make a cardigan next. I just love it.
Posted by: Bells at March 22, 2007 09:28 AMThe cardigan looks great on you, even if the shot is headless. I love Em's new headband too, it looks wonderful. I cant wait to see how the tea set turns out too, must stay tuned for that. We seem to have a few rosellas flying around our area, of course with all the galahs and cockatoos it gets quite noisy after a bit.
Posted by: Sue at March 22, 2007 09:49 AMYou have really been busy knitting. The cardi looks great on you and Em is so cute and growing up so fast.
Posted by: Wendy G at March 22, 2007 10:16 AMthat cardi looks really nice and cosy ^_^ but i'm a clumsy person, i will never ever wear white...blouses are alrite but not jackets :P
Posted by: Michelle at March 22, 2007 01:45 PMThe headband is so sweet on Emm. The JS cardigan looks lovely on you. At least next time when you knit it, you'll have no problem adjusting where you want to - that's always the beauty of knitting a garment for the second time.
Posted by: Janette at March 22, 2007 10:12 PMThe cardi looks great, not too big at all. And it would appear that Em is exceedingly pleased with her headband. What a gorgeous bird, I'm glad you can name his species, I'd just call it a bird (or maybe I could see that he's a parrot or budgie of some kind.)
Posted by: Susan Hird at March 23, 2007 01:44 AMThe cardigan is gorgeous! It looks perfect on you. And the headband is cute on Em. Love the pictures of the bird-we only see that kind of an animal in a zoo or cage over here! Does Twinkie like the birds? Probably not.
Posted by: Janet at March 23, 2007 04:57 AMBoth have inspired me! I'm going to have to make a VERY basic version of the ladybug unless I can crochet one... hmmmmm
The Buns say 'hay' to Twinkle.
Posted by: DKM at March 23, 2007 05:09 AMThe cardi is lovely! There is a similar pattern in Knit3, so hopefully they have sorted out the math problem with this one. I've been thinking of adding it to my list. After seeing this one of yours, I might just move it up the list a bit. :o)
Posted by: Terri at March 25, 2007 11:39 AMOh, I really love that sweater. It looks great on you!! Happy Belated Birthday to Em!
Posted by: Wanda at March 26, 2007 08:32 AMLove the cardi - looks great on you. The teaset and headband - great! But you're going to have to stop being so productive, you're making me look bad!
Posted by: Meaghan at March 28, 2007 05:30 PMyour daughter's head band is great, not to mention the white cardi, the parrot, the tea set etc.
I have bought the pattern for faina's scarf, but have not started it yet. Looks good, how long would you say what you have knitted is?
just found your web site through a link on happyspider. Cheers, gemma
