I am so proud of myself that I need to open with a little bit of boasting.

See what I got today?

100_2349.jpg

A gold star from Weight Watchers. That means that I've lost 10% of my original body weight.
Yay me!!

Okay, boast over.
The cobweb has landed. It could be worse.

The new one is the one on the left. It's lighter and whiter than the original yarn. Not to be deterred, I began the centre square with it. It's not hugely obvious, especially in the photos, but it's definitely different.

In case you really can't see it, I've marked it here.

I'll try to reserve final judgement until it's finished, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be dyed to cover the difference. I am a little disappointed. Although I'm not a huge traditionalist, I had really wanted this one to be white, or off white.
It all depends how it looks when it's done.

congratz on the weight loss! as for the cobweb, maybe it's the color on my laptop, but i can't tell the difference at all. it looks lovely though.

Yay you on the WW gold star!

This may be a stupid question (clearly I have never dyed anything in my life!) but is it possible to dye something white? Or off-white? (I don't mean dye something that is already white, I mean dye something of another colour to make it white!) Or is that called bleaching? (which I would NOT recommend with your beautiful knitting and cobweb yarn!)

(heh, we do have good taste in yarn!!!)

ooh...congrats on the star!!! :)

i can see the difference in colour from the yarn pic but i cant see it in the knitting!! haha

Posted by: Michelle at May 17, 2007 01:50 PM

Firstly YAY YOU Skinny thing. Well done....

Secondly - I am glad you put the black line there because I WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN WHERE TO LOOK.

But.

We have been down this path before and I am sure if you know it is there - then it is there....

You're a star!! You could collect the set and make stitch markers!!! I too can see the difference in the before picture, but not in the actual knitting.

Posted by: 2paw at May 17, 2007 02:07 PM

Congrats on the gold star!!! :)

Too bad about the yarn... I couldn't tell the difference in the knitting either until you pointed it out. So what colour would dye it?

Posted by: claudine at May 17, 2007 02:54 PM

Congratulations! The star = a lot of hard work, and I know how much, because I never made it. You can be my inspiration for going back when I can :)

congratulations on the gold star! i just started ww and am in my 4th week and i can't believe how much just a few pounds lost can make you feel so much better! i've got a ways to go before i get to 10%, but i'm hanging in there.....

Posted by: debbie at May 17, 2007 06:37 PM

Congrats on your gold star :) It would make a great stitch marker!

Is it possible to dye the shawl with tea, or something very pale that would retain the cream tint? Like everyone else, I can see the colour difference in the balls, but not in the knitting - but it's probably more obvious in real life.

Congratulations!!

Y'know, I noticed you were losing weight in some of your recent photos, especially where you're cleaning out Em's room - or is that Em?

In any event, I didn't say anything as I didn't wish to offend - but YAY!!! Good on you! Apart from looking gorgeous, it's great 4 your health (heart/arteries etc). So, YAY! Again. x

The photo of you with the beanie from the other day showed an obvious weight loss. I was wondering how much you had lost. Well done! It makes you feel so much better. I lost 25kgs by following WW on my own. My diet is pretty RS at the moment, but work runs off the excess chocolate. It doesn't help that I work in a bakery and we cook some yummo bikkies! White choc and cranberry - mmmmmm.

Maybe the colours will even out with a wash? Wonder what a dose of nappisan does to shetland wool?

Wow,well done! Dont lose too much though, you need a bit of cover for winter,I've put on a bit and hate it but everyone is telling me its ok,they dont have to carry it etc etc,
Anyway onto the shawl,I cant tell either and I bet when you finish it and wrap it oh so elegantly around youself, it wont stand out!

PS Fluffa has a date and we are thinking of changing his name to SS, short for Super Stud, he has a blind date with a dwarf short hair lady!!!!LOL he has met her a little while ago but through a cage door....

Congratulations on your weight loss!

Can you bleach your shawl when it's done?

Congratulations on receiving the Star, Donna. For a while there, I thought I was being rude for pointing out your weight lost!

Posted by: Marina at May 17, 2007 09:53 PM

Congrats on the star - feels awesome when you get them!

Love the spiderweb, hopefully one day I'll get up the courage to knit something so gorgeous.

Congrats on the star its a great achievment.
Also I couldn't see the colour difference on the pic, but I know what its like it will always bug you because you know its there.

Posted by: Nic at May 17, 2007 10:33 PM

Oh dear it is not good at all. It feels like a sin to dye it. BUt something very pale just to even it out might be ok.

Congrats on the great weight effort see what all that knitting can do.

Congratulations, you have every right to boast and to be proud of yourself.

The lace is looking very beautiful and, like others, I can't see the difference in the knitting although I can see it in the balls. In the end, it's up to you, you're the one that's going to wear it.

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I can see the difference in color on the ball more than I can when it's knitted. It's going to be a wait and see thing.

Congratulations on reaching such a huge milestone!!

Posted by: Susan at May 18, 2007 03:16 AM

CONGRATS! As for the knitting ... could it be bleached (be kind, remember I dont knit)?

Posted by: Shan at May 18, 2007 07:03 AM

Congrats on the gold star!

Congrats on the WW Star.

I am sorry the color didn't arrive closer to what you have. Would you be able to dye it about one shade darker of an off white? I am not sure how that would work but it might. I hope you have enough left of the two colors and then you could make a swatch and dye it to see how it will look.

Acch, sorry about the triplicate comment.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Losing weight can be very tough so good job. I can't see the difference in the lace at all but I do see the difference with the balls.

Posted by: Evelyn at May 18, 2007 11:30 AM

You could always wash it in a very weak tea mixture, this will turn it off white.

Posted by: Annie at May 18, 2007 02:18 PM

Thanks for dropping by my blog!! And can I say a MASSIVE congratulations on your weight loss. I reached my 10% a few weeks ago and got my star. I'm hanging it off my mobile phone to remind me of the achievement!! It's great to hear from a fellow WW who is also a knitter!!

Posted by: Lien at May 18, 2007 05:38 PM

Congratulations - a star for a star!

Posted by: Janette at May 18, 2007 09:04 PM

Congratulations on the weightloss!

I'm glad you found some more yarn. Even with it marked I can barely tell that its different, so hopefully once the shawl is all finished it will still barely show. :) It's looking gorgeous, by the way.

Posted by: Samantha at May 19, 2007 04:38 AM

10% eh? That must feel like a weight off you! Congrats!
I can't see the diff in the shawl. It looks great :-)

Popping in to add my congratulations on your gold star!!! Like one of the other posters, I also thought that was Em cleaning out her own room. The weight loss does show in the photos and you look fabulous. For me, WW was the only program that worked. I continue to enjoy your inspirational knitting. Thanks for such a great site --- a pleasure to visit, and way to go, gold star girl.
