My Blog

May 19, 2007

I'm feeling a little despondent today. All of my local knitting buddies are at Knitting Camp.
I couldn't make it, Em has a big dance thing on this afternoon and tomorrow. So I'm stting here feeling sorry for myself. To try to cheer myself up, I've been not-shopping.
Internet surfing, finding things I like and want, and putting them into my basket, then not finalising the order, because I really shouldn't be spending so much money.
Besides, I was buying yarn for socks and lace, and I have plenty of both in the stash. Of course, that's never stopped me before.
I didn't buy:
3 balls of Kidsilk Night in Starry Night or Ballerina for the Pink Puzzle Wrap. I have the pattern, not the yarn. The pattern is gorgeous though, totally droolworthy! The sparkle in Kidsilk night is doing me in.
I also didn't buy Socks that Rock in Lovers Leap, Mustang Sally or Lemongrass.
I didn't buy Colourmart Silk laceweight in dark red for the Dragone shawl.
I didn't buy any Louet Gems Pearl in any colour, no matter how tempting.
And I didn't buy any KnitPicks Gloss in Black, Burgundy or Dusk, but it wouldn't matter if I had've, because Knitpicks don't think I'm good enough to buy their yarn.
I also didn't buy Cables Untangled, tempting though it was.
There was more, I'm ashamed to admit. Lots more.
I don't need yarn. I shouldn't spend the money. Doesn't stop me wanting it, though!
In happier news, it's a sunny Saturday in Sydney again!

And I finished the Prisma Garter Rib socks.

They fit, he likes them.
Specs:
Yarn - Opal Prisma in 1194
Needles - 2mm
Pattern - Garter Rib socks from Sensational Knitted Socks.

Super easy pattern, and it's fun to find something different that works well with a self striping yarn.
Oh, look!
Hat and socks together!

It'll take his back a week to recover from that!

LOL! Oh dear, I'm just laughing with you here cos I do that too - go to online shops, choose stuff, and then don't buy it cos it's all too much... Sorry you're missing out on Knitting Camp, though - that's a bummer. Kids, hey?

Hat and socks look brilliant, by the way :)

Ouch!! That is way too bendy!! The socks look great. It is hard to find a pattern to suit the colours sometimes. Window shopping!! I love doing that. When we were little we would go to town in Summer (in our pyjamas) with Mum and Dad and we would all window shop in the city along with all the other families!! How sad is that???? I put some wool on special on lay-by. I am very bad!!!

i love to go online window shopping too! it's so much fun and kinda cuts down on impulse buying. i like how the socks turned out!

Ahh, shopping. I've done a bit of that since I started working - and after the s... of a day I just had I might need a bit of retail therapy tonight. Have you looked at bookdepository.co.uk? Free shipping, and the prices are not inflated to cover posting. I've bought several books off them without problem. I check the price on US Amazon and locally before buying - UK Amazon is usually more expensive than US. I know Borders has Cables Untangled, but I can't remember the price. $50+ I think, but I have been known to be wrong!

Oh Dear! Id love to go to Knit camp to but theres only one other knitter I know who would knit socially but my own company is nice,LOL
I window shop too,But I tend to fixate on things and keep going back till eventually I either buy it or find something else! My latest is a lopi kit from the US,@ approx $100? maybe a B'day pressie?,an early one?
Socks look great, must get a move one with my Hubbys!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and hope Em goes ok!

Those silks and cashmere from Colourmart are so tempting! But I'll wait till I know whether I can knit lace.

Could be worse--there's a new spinning/weaving shop that opened near me. I've been twice in two weeks. Bad Cathy. Now I have wool/cotton, wool, hemp, and linnen to spin, a new drop spindle, and a dipping bowl for my wheel(s). And I keep looking at the Kromskis she has, and I tried the Hitchhiker (don't think I like it--I was worried about leg safety for myself, can you just imagine it around the baby? EEEEK!) If you want to go and drool there, too, it's here. But I had fun! ;)

I don't even tempt myself with yarn online. You showed marvelous restraint. The socks look great and so does the hat! You win the Best Photograph of a Finished Object Award. Too funny.

For a minute I imagined it was Em trying to be Dad. Ouch! It hurts just to look at it. But love the socks and hat!

Has he been watching Em with her routines. It makes me wince just looking at the picture, as I am sure if I tried it I would get stuck. The socks and hat look great together too. Pity about the camp, although I am sure you can try and make it for the next time.

What a beautiful blue sky! We're getting the same in Brisbane, but we're also all doing a rain dance while enjoying the "lovely" weather!

Ouch! I can almost hear the snap, crackle and pop!

The socks look great! Well done for resisting temptation! Perhaps you could finish something and then treat yourself? Then it is simply replenishing the stash, not adding to it!!

Sorry that you are missing out on Camp, that does make it difficult when all of your friends are going too. I do that too sometimes just shopping online, but not buying anyting. Lately though I've been hitting the pay button a bit too much, so I'm all for non-shopping for awhile.

YEAH I thought that was a good effort for someone our age. We'll to make you feel better I had to work this weekend so your not the only one who couldnt go. I was happy enough to curl up on the lounge in my pj's, with my kids and watch dvd's all saturday evening. They grow up too fast anyways. How did Em's thing go this weekend?

Posted by: Leeanne at May 20, 2007 05:09 PM

Oh yeah, I do that too, all the time. Thank heaven's I'm not the only one. The socks look great. Your man is very ....flexible... ;o)

Those socks look great. And the gymnastics are pretty interesting!

I'm about to start a pair of socks for my husband - in Heirloom Jigsaw self-striping yarn. Tomorrow I plan a trip to The Wool Inn - but only for needles and a pattern, I already have the yarn!

I'm sure watching Em is much more rewarding than knitting camp. Online shopping is sooo much fun. My only problem is that sometimes my credit card gets too much of a workout! I need to show more restraint!

Posted by: Diana at May 21, 2007 05:18 AM

oh...so sorry to hear that you miss the knitting camp. anyway...i'm just like you. i visit those online stores and drool over the yarn everday. but i always stop myself from buying as my stash is already quite big!!! and i'm not knitting that fast!!

have you bought from knitting zone before??

I am sorry you didn't get to go to knitting camp, the things we do for our kids eh? I hope that Em's dancing thing went well and congrats on that gold star.

Socks and hat together look great, but I think I just heard my back groan, heh!

Posted by: Shan at May 22, 2007 05:37 AM

Internet window shopping is good for soothing those blues. Knitpicks is good as they don't let you buy anyway, so there's no worry about accidental slips of the finger. I think your 'not bought' shopping list sounds pretty good!

We missed you.
