Sleeves, part 1 of 2842

Sleeves. I think I'll start knitting vests.

As you can see, I wimped out and went with one sleeve at a time on DPNS. I know some people think that two-on-two-circs is quicker, and maybe for them it is, but the avoidance tactics I employ mean that it would actually take me far, far longer.
And I'm hoping to actually wear this garment at some point!
Boring knitting, though, isn't it?

To brighten my knitting world, I bought yarn. Debbie Bliss Cathay, to be precise.

This is intended for ChicKnits Nicole.

Look at that! It's sleeveless! I think I also chose this in the vain hope that warm weather will, one day, return.

I'm nearing the end of the second Shetland Shawl border, and I've come to what some would consider an unsurprising realisation. I need to graft 183 stitches.
I detest grafting in all shapes and forms.
Worse than that, it's garter stitch grafting.
I've never grafted garter stitch in my life. For that matter, I still need to use a video to Kitchener my toes. Yes, even after a billion socks.
Any volunteers?

And finally, I downloaded the pictures off my mobile phone. What happens when you cross a 14 year old and a mobile phone with a camera?

And that's only a small selection!

I think I would have to pay someone to do that grafting - omg!! But at least you have the lovely Nicole to reward you once you've done it!!

I haven't had to graft garter stitch yet either.

All this looking at angora fuzziness has made me drag mine out of the stash, I think mine will become Wicked when it grows up :)

the shetland shawl looks beautiful, as does that debbie bliss yarn. Great choice of project, it will suit it perfectly.

Keep at it with the sleeves, you'll get there!

Sleeves don't look that big until you knit them. Then you realize why they take so long. One at a time is the way I knit them. Hang in there.

I've never grafted garter stitch. Hmm, wonder if grafting like normal on the wrong side is the same as grafting in garter on the right side.

Em has that -look into the camera sideways like a model- look down. Be afraid, be very afraid.

I'm big on avoidance. That's probably why I'm still not done on the finishing of a tank. Yes, the situation has gotten worse than just sleeves. I'm not loathed to seam and pick up stitches for armholes and neckline. Pathetic! Those pics on your phone cracks me up....I knew cameras on phones were not for adults!

One at a time sleeves is the way I go, always have and probably always will. I also usually knit flat and seam, but I really like the in the round method.
Has Em signed with a modelling agency yet?

Oh, I feel for you. I just had to graft in garter stitch six stitches to end a shawlet. I had to read and study every stitch I touched.

Em is a beauty. It's going to be interesting when she hits 16.

Great idea to knit sleeves in the round as I do it too to avoid seaming. Oh - grafting - that's a word that I don't use at all as I knit all my socks from toe-up. Sorry I can't help!

I have written down F-p B-k, F-kp, B-pk. That is my grafting reminder!! If I forget to look at it I make a tangled mess, but that many stitches?? Good luck!!
Thanks for Em's photos, it made me laugh!! She is very amusing!!!

I'll volunteer but the postage to Florida would probably cost more than the shawl is worth. Of course feel free to send me an airline ticket :)

Yikes, that's a hell of a lot of grafting! 0_o

The sleeve's looking great, even if you don't like knitting it :) And I LOVE that white lacy top - gorgeous pattern.

Em is cracking me up ... bet she does that to you everyday!

Ooh that Nicole top looks so nice. I have looked at it before over at Bonnie's site and have yet to knit any of her patterns, although I have bought 2 of them. I am sure yours will look wonderful when it is finished. I hope the grafting doesnt take too long either to finish.

The sleeve looks lovely, however you do it is up to you! The shawl edging is just gorgeous - so looking forward to seeing the finished product! And your miss 14 has much better aim than my master 7 and miss 4 - though theirs is improving!!

I'd volunteer but you'll feel so much better if you do it yourself! LOL

That sleeve looks familiar - I had a jumper with a basque and sleeves like that when I was a teenager - back in the dark ages! :-)

Two sleeves on two circulars, hmm! Never tried it - a bit tedious perhaps? I thought about two socks on eight needles, but then I'd need another to knit with; it all sounds too complicated!
