My Blog

September 05, 2007

I'm behind.
Behind in my blogging, behind in my email, behind in my housework.
Behind in my knitting.

Not that there's an actual due date for the knitting, or a timetable I'm trying to stick to, I just feel like I'm not getting any done. Well, not enough.

Since i finished Fifi last week, there has been some knitting. The Cocoon Lace Scarf has seen some action.

It's slow moving. I'm trying to have some faith in the blocking process, because right now it doesn't look like much.

And I finally picked up the second Twisted flower sock. It's coming along nicely.

However, I found that with the Twisted Flower sock, and the lace scarf, I don't have any "mindless" carry along knitting. So I started some socks for David.

Let's be innovative and call these "The Green Stripey Socks". I thought they might be a little on the bright side, but David likes them.
I'm trying to prepare the family for New York winter days! New socks, new gloves, new hats. So I think I'll be on little knits for a while.

I'm feeling a little stressed this week. All my sewing duties are catching up to me, and I'm behind on that too, So now I have to try to catch up on those!

Em's knee is still giving her problems, so we're trying Bowen Therapy. (Hence the need for mindless knitting for the waiting room). She had her first treatment yesterday afternoon, and swears there's a discernible difference already, but she's ticked off and whining that the therapist has asked her not to dance at all until her next appointment on Saturday. Of course, the whining isn't helping my stress levels.

Anyone want to come meet me for a coffee?!?

Ohh you have my sympathies with a moaning whinging child. I've had Bowen myself & it was very good.

Hang on in there.....

I'm drinking my coffee this morning as I read this, so I guess that's as close as I can get at the moment to meeting you for coffee. You have my sympathies.

Posted by: Cathy at September 6, 2007 12:39 AM

Oh, if only I could!
Well, I don't drink coffee, but meeting would be nice. Hope your stress levels drop soon.
Em, be good, and do as you're told, you don't want to hurt yourself more!

I am behind in everything too. Everything.

Posted by: Karen at September 6, 2007 02:37 AM

Best wishes to Em! I hope the Bowen therapy does help.

I love all of your beautiful projects. I have the Twisted Flower pattern but have not cast on yet. I think it will require a stash enhancement for the proper yarn!

Would you mind sharing what type of cast on you used on your "Green Stripey" socks?

hope em responds well to therapy....i bought the twisted sock pattern too, but am holding off 'til maybe after christmas....green stripey socks look very happy!

I love the Twisted flower socks too, although the picture is not helping me figure out why they are named that. I am having coffee (well, tea) with you long distance and I raise my cup to a fellow whiny daughter victim. Cheers!!

I hate that panic feeling of needing to get more done, but really doing as much as you can bear - have been in that state for a few weeks now myself. Horrible.

Wish I could join you for a cuppa tea - then we could commiserate about teenage daughters! I hope the treatment helps, and she is on the mend (and off the whine) soon!

Your knitting is as beautiful as ever - I'm sure blocking will work its magic on your scarf :)

Of course you've got to have something mindless on the needles -- I did the same thing at the start of the semester. Otherwise I'd just sit around twiddling my thumbs in the hall until the professor arrived. Hope Emily's therapy continues to go well! (And that the whining goes into swift decline, for your nerves' sake!)

It's hard when you are a kid and Saturday seems like forever away - hope the caffeine helps you!!

And I'm sure that blocking will work it's usual wonders on cocoon.

I have days like that too but don't worry as brighter days are on the way. The Cocoon looks so lovely & the color is gorgeous. Hope Em feels good soon! I will love to have coffee with you one day.

The Bowen therapy sounds really interesting. I know some friends of mine do The Alexander technique. Hope Em listens to the 'expert' and she heals nicely. Have you tried earplugs???
The Twisted sock looks so wonderful, so complicated!!! And I do love the Green Stripey Socks of course!!!
I'm a week behind in everything. At least. Must do Spring culling!!!

Poor Em. Just remind her of all those moronic footballers - the ones who have knee reconstructions one day, and are back on the field within days/weeks. And 10mins into the first game they do their knee again. Career over. Arthritis.

My cousins's daughter plays basketball and has ongoing injury problems. But I think even she has realised that you have to sit out a season if you want to keep earning the big bucks.

Hmmm. Shetland shawl still on hiatus?

I've got time for coffee - next week?

Posted by: Lara at September 6, 2007 02:35 PM

Purple flowers are the prettiest! Nice bit of spring greenery to set them off, too :>

Your scarf will be fine, I'm sure. Oh wow, those socks! They look amazing.

Wish I could meet you for coffee!

Posted by: amanda j at September 6, 2007 08:17 PM

Well I wish I could just skip work for a coffee but that isnt an option

I guess we are all behind it seems even I am slightly behind too. Darn Shawls got me bogged back.

I hope Em understands that the bit of a rest can help to recouperate and catch up on homework before the holidays.

Taking dance away from Em is like yanking the needles out of our hands--a tough thing to adjust to. Hopefully she'll do as the therapist asks so she will get better.

Your knitting projects are coming along nicely. The green stripey socks are sure to see a lot of action if you have much waiting to do.

I think the cocoon scarf looks scrumptuous - I had to google the pattern. Is it kidsilk haze, or?
I hope the Bowen Therapy is helpful for Em. Has she tried traditional PT for strengthening her quads and hamstrings? Here is a website that explains what happened to my teenage daughter when she was dancing. http://www.orthoseek.com/articles/chondromp.html
She also got orthotics for her shoes that helped her tremendously. I do hope Em feels better. My daughter did finally stop dancing but she wasn't consistent with the exercises and I think that was part of the answer.

Fingers crossed that the therapist gives the ok on Saturday. Can't imagine Em not dancing.

I'd love to come for a coffee with you, but by the time I got there the coffee would be well and truly cold. My commiserations on your stressful life at present, but I'm sure it will all blow over soon, and then very soon you'll be on that big flying bus and off on a great adventure. Just keep the dream alive while breathing deeply.

Wish I lived closer to you and I could pop in for coffee. The scarf looks beautiful, and the sock looks amazing. I hope your stress levels dont overwhelm you too much.

Good luck with the scarf and socks (green looks nice, forest-y).

I'm a tried and true advocate of Bowen therapy, as someone who has an abnormal fear of chiropractors, and doesn't like pain, she'll love it. Barely feel a thing while the treatment does its work.

If I were closer to you than present (ie - in the same state) I'd definitely do the coffee thing, alas, it is not so. :D
