Tuesday already?

Who keeps stealing my days? It's Tuesday! We fly out the day after tomorrow. And with my usual sense of excellent timing, I've come down with a rotten head cold.

I'm already a bad flier. Cross your fingers for me that I'm over the worst of it by Thursday, please!

The beret for Em was a disaster. When will I ever learn to check my gauge? It's about the right size for a three or four year old, I think. So, back to Buttercup. Which is coming along beautifully. I'm hoping I can finish the second front before we leave.

And my holiday knitting has been prepared.

Yup, that's it. Two skeins of ShibuiKnits sock yarn in my Loopy Ewe project bag. That's all I'm taking, along with my Knitpicks Options needle set.

I have plans to collect a little (hee hee) yarn along the way on our trip, and I know I'll want to knit with my new yarn, so I'm not even going to bother packing any other yarn from home.

And Australian airlines are still in the dark ages. We're not allowed to knit on flights from Australia, so I won't need knitting for the long flights.

My other news is that I had a visitor yesterday. A very unwelcome one. I was sitting at my desk, and I could hear little noises. At first, I thought there might be someone out the front, so I checked, but no. The noises continued, and when I turned around, there was a bloody blue tongued lizard in my lounge room.

Apologies for the blurry photos, I was busy screaming down the phone at David, who thought it was the funniest thing he'd heard in a long time.

My yelling must have upset him, because he ran away from me but fortunately, he was heading straight for the back door. (The floor is a mess, ignore that bit!) The pictures got clearer about now, because he was further away from me and headed outside.

I had to take pictures, not only for blog fodder, but to show David that I wasn't making it up. I was beginning to worry that he wouldn't find the back door, but he eventually got out.

Twinkie showed no interest whatsoever in the whole shenanigans.

LOL, a blue tongue inside?! You get ALL the fun, girl :D My son loves those lizards, and nearly got a pet one when he was younger... they're nice a smooth to touch.

Not good about the head cold. Seriously, take Sudafed or something similar and long-lasting before the flight.

If there's any chance of your ears being blocked and painful, you can get these little tubey ear plug things (buy them at the airport newsagency or chemist) which equalise the pressure - my mum had dreadful ear pain on a recent flight (to Brisbane for the wedding), she was in tears the whole way - and by using these ear plug things she was fine on the flight home a few days later. I think they were called EarPlanes?

What? Twinkie didn't come to your rescue?! Tsk, tsk.

:)

I probably would have freaked out as well :) Have fun on the trip! Hope your head cold goes away soon!

I would have freaked also, funny how husbands always find these things amusing. Have a safe and wonderful trip with your family Donna!

I look forward to reading about it all and also to all the photos of the lovely knitting goodies you'll come back with.

He was a big guy! Until I read what he was, I thought he looked like a baby crocodile in the blurry shots.

Have fun on your trip. I think socks are the perfect project to pack. They'll keep you interested, you won't finish them in a few hours and they don't take up much space, so you'll have plenty of room to bring home more yarn.

that lizard looks too big! guess you'll be reading on the flight? will we be seeing you at aloha knitters on the 10th? have a nice trip and hope your head cold stays home....

Poor lizard, crazy woman screaming at him probably scared the crap out of him.

I hope you get over the cold. I seem to have caught one too. I made a trip to the store this morning for meds and tissues. On a good note, you can knit on the planes while you're hopping around the U.S.

Wow! I like lizards, but that's a big one! I wonder how it got inside! Good thing Twinkie wasn't interested. I think Mrs. Cooper would have gone over to say hello, and then we'd have a vet visit to deal with, too. :) Good luck with your cold!

Have a wonderful trip and Merry Christmas!

Love the blue tongue.

I just hope that blue tongue wasn't scoping out your place for a more permanent settlement! Hope you're feeling better and you have heaps of fun in america. You'd be bound to pick up a nasty bug on the plane anyway, so good to be getting it out of your system now!

hahah!! Imagine if you *hadn't* heard him, and he *hadn't* found the back door. And you came back from your trip and a LIZARD had set up residence??

Posted by: Taueret at December 19, 2007 07:39 AM

Haha, you should have said it was a baby crocodile to see who believed you!!

Am so so excited for you! It will be so fantastic, can't wait to hear all about it and see photos and see yarn haul!

i think you're still brave, following the lizard and snapping photos of it. if it was me, i'd probably be standing on top of a chair and screaming my lungs out!!!!!

Posted by: Michelle at December 19, 2007 09:27 AM

Eww, a lizard. I would have been screaming good and loud.

I hope you have a great trip.

We have blueys living in our yard. Yours looks like a pregnant female. Although it is a little late for having the babies, the changeable weather has been strange and may have thrown it out a bit. The thing is, they are very territorial and so if the lizard has its babies in your yard, you will have them for decades to come. They are harmless. They eat all the snails and insects. We leave ours alone, but they love the dried cat food. I think you are very lucky.

Oh yuck. I thought you were going to say you had a mouse as a visitor. A lizard is worse!

I keep thinking I've learned the gauge lesson too. Then I go and prove myself wrong, again and again.

Have a safe and fun trip!

Aw! I think he's cute! (Sorry...) Especially when he's looking out. :-)

Bon voyage! It's a wee bit chilly here in the US right now. Bundle up!

That's a pity that Em's beret didn't turn out but I am sure you can easily whip another up. Hope you will be better for your flight on Thursday. Imagine those long hours & not being able to knit - Singapore Airlines is more flexible. Have a good trip.

I read somewhere about someone making some needles out of rolled up tightly paper pulling the end out slightly to taper it and then putting a coat of varnish over them... Apparently cause they are just paper and would crush if pushed against something, Like a body for instance, they got thru customs and knitted all the way to where they were going... I wish I could find the link now grr

An impressive looking lizard. I find that there's always a split second between when I see reptile and when I see legs - the scariest split second ever.

I've knitted on flights using plastic crayons, but it get's pretty boring doing plain-ish scarves.

Eeuw, I would have dropped the camera.
Sorry about your cold. Have a great trip anyway.

Posted by: sue at December 19, 2007 11:02 PM

Yikes. It looks kinda big (when compared to house lizards) Anyway, hope you have a safe trip and a great time in USA! =)

That is one giant lizard to find in your home! I once saw a giant spider in the shower with me and freaked. Spiders don't normally bother me but being trapped in an enclosed space with one was no fun!
