Already bored
I'm already bored with blogging the Shetland shawl. I"m still ahead of target, so it's going well. Here's an updated picture.

Like I said, boring blogging. Even the Baudelaire's haven't seen much action, because I've been working so hard on the shawl.
So lets go back tot he second of the secret projects I was working on, back in December. Evelyn, who is a longtime commenter here, but who is sadly blogless, had a little baby girl named Audrey back in November. I wanted to knit something for her, so I ordered some Zara, and whipped up a February Baby Sweater from Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitters Almanac. I love the way it looks while it's being constructed.
For anyone who hasn't actually knit this (Am I the last?!?), you start with the round yoke and work down, adding in sleeves as you go.

The sleeves are knit flat, then you pick up all the body stitches again, and work down to the hem.

It's a nifty little knit, at the end, the only seams you have are the sleeve and underarm seams, and it's so pretty!

But the Zara knit up into a much larger cardi than I was expecting! I was aiming for a 3 months or so size, and ended up with something that may even fit a one year old! That's okay, Audrey lives in San Francisco, and may need it then.
That's it, all I have. Next time, another FO, I promise.

The sweater is gorgeous! Thanks for showing how it goes together. Very interesting. I think it's better that it ended up bigger, because she'll be able to wear it longer.
Posted by: Wool Winder at January 30, 2008 01:02 AMWhat a sweet and pretty little baby sweater! Love the interesting construction. Don't worry, you're not the last. ;)
Posted by: Kessa at January 30, 2008 01:31 AMWhat an adorable baby sweater! I bet Audrey and Evelyn will be delighted!
Posted by: sprite at January 30, 2008 02:59 AMthank you for showing the progression of the baby sweater - it's adorable!

Posted by: Kylie at January 30, 2008 03:47 AMI've somehow been able to avoid the EZ bandwagon, up to this point. With that sweater, I think I'll be picking up a book or two on my way home tonight! It's adorable and the construction is genius!
Posted by: Mandy at January 30, 2008 03:56 AMThe Zara yarn is beautiful to knit with, and no I think I am going to be the last person to knit that little sweater. I am sure Audrey will love it too, and larger baby knits last longer.
Posted by: Sue at January 30, 2008 07:17 AMThe cardigan is gorgeous in construction, yarn choice and quality of knitting. And you are definitely not the last!!
Posted by: Lynne at January 30, 2008 07:55 AMI love the Feb baby sweater - and if you post it now, it will arrive in February - genius timing!! (I think I know what I'll be knitting in February...)
Posted by: roseredshoes at January 30, 2008 08:21 AMSo happy to see these in progress pictures! Audrey loves her sweater, so pretty & soft. I've always wanted to work with Zara. She's a peanut, only a little over 8lbs at her 2 mos appointment so it'll be a while before she can wear it. I can't wait to get a photo of her in it for you!
Posted by: Evelyn at January 30, 2008 08:52 AMI haven't knit that sweater yet, but now I'm gonna! Yours is gorgeous!
Posted by: La at January 30, 2008 09:10 AMI haven't knit that sweater yet, but now I'm gonna! Yours is gorgeous!

Posted by: Wanda at January 30, 2008 01:23 PMGorgeous! I really must get myself some EZ books. I'm ashamed to admit I don't have any. :o/
Posted by: Terri at January 30, 2008 05:15 PMInteresting method! Very cute little cardi!
Posted by: Rachael at January 30, 2008 06:13 PMHow sweet is that baby jacket, I must check out the pattern (I have the book). I have been wanting to try a top down anything, so this would be a good start.
Posted by: Annie at January 30, 2008 09:37 PMOh that is an amazing baby cardi, you're not the last, I've not even seen it before now!
Posted by: angie at January 31, 2008 03:56 PMSuch a pretty little jacket, I have knitted the exact same thing but the opposite way!!! Hope you are less bored soon!!
Posted by: 2paw at February 1, 2008 02:27 PMThe picture of the baby cardigan are really helpful! I've just started making one and I wasn't entirely clear on how the arms worked. I appreciate seeing it in mid construction.
