Done
The third border is done and grafted, complete. One more to go.
And I've started that one, too.
Mind you, I will never, ever, ever make a shawl with this construction again. Grafting is possibly worse than vacuuming. Or cleaning the bathroom.
At this stage, I'm nicely in front of my schedule to get this done, and I'm starting to worry about the dyeing!
In other news, I've been nominated twice for the You Make My Day Award.
Thank you so much, Cathy and Rachael! I really feel awesome when I gt nominated for these things!
However, I'm useless at re-awarding them. I subscribe to somewhere in the vicinity of 300 blogs. And you all make my day! I check in on Bloglines several times a day, and I love all of your blogs. I don't read blogs I don't like!
Can I nominate the Knitting Bloggers webring?
And via Bells, I put my hand up for the Pay It Forward dealie thing that's been making the blog rounds of late.
I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.
I love mail! Love sending it, love receiving it. Don't' know what I'll send yet, but I promise to try to make it something nice :)

gee Donna, not sure you can be trusted to make something nice. I mean look at that shawl. Just terrible (NOT!!!)
It is so so fabulous. Totally agree on the grafting - but it will be so gorgeous once done.
Posted by: roseredshoes at February 4, 2008 08:57 PMwell the shawl is looking gorgeous as it should but I see yours getting done and well my dress has hit the speed hump with a problem getting on the needles. Time is a precious thing when I work 40 hours a week and have another order due out by the end of feb. I see allnighters on my end.
Take the next one for pay it forward if Istill get 3rd be nice to those around me.
Posted by: metal and knit at February 4, 2008 11:01 PMWow! You're fast! It looks lovely even in its unblocked stage. I'm sure the FO will be stunning, as always. ;) Just curious, though, what colour do you plan to dye it in?
Posted by: Kessa at February 5, 2008 12:26 AMYour progress is amazing! Suddenly, I'm feeling a little ashamed at the way I've been dragging my feet on my worsted weight mittens. There's no need of that!
Posted by: Marlena at February 5, 2008 02:48 AMI didn't really think of it before, but that's a lot of stitches to graft! Looking forward to seeing what color you choose.
Posted by: Wool Winder at February 5, 2008 03:33 AMOh, Donna that is sooooo pretty! I know you hated the construction of it but... I have to say it was probably worth it! :) And yay, you're almost done! :)
Posted by: Krystal at February 5, 2008 03:38 AMAnd, hey, I'll sign up for pif! That sounds amazing! :)
Posted by: Krystal at February 5, 2008 03:41 AMoh my god look at that shawl, and you grafted all those borders? (shakes head in wonderment). and im with you on the blog award thing, i only read blogs that already make my day. like yours!
Posted by: kms at February 5, 2008 07:01 AMThe shawl looks great. You have been busy knitting on it.
Posted by: Suzanne at February 5, 2008 10:24 AMActually, make that three times. I nominated you too. :o)
Posted by: Terri at February 5, 2008 11:26 AMWow for the shawl, but you're not quite right - grafting is far worse than any sort of housework, specially such fine stuff as the shawl! I only do toe-up socks for that reason!
It's the taxi-driving for teenagers which sends you ga-ga, although in Vic they can get their "L"s when they turn 16, so then you only have to be in the car, not drive it. That was when I started knitting face-washers (use any US dishcloth pattern, do it in 8 ply cotton, make it 25 - 30 cm square). At first, just do the corner-to-corner garter st ones, till you stop having to scream and have heart failure at the near-misses and/or idiocy [of other drivers, of course].
BTW, congrats on the marriage - loved the travelogue, and certainly more fun than the local church/park/registry office for a wedding!
Wow, that shawl is looking gorgeous! After finishing the body I probably would have just made up a border because this border thing seems never ending! Yeah, grafting doesn't sound like fun for someone who hates finishing so no thank you on this type of construction! Glad you're doing it though so I can see how exquisite the shawl can be.
Posted by: Evelyn at February 6, 2008 02:42 AMWow, that shawl is flying off your needles! It's breathtaking Donna!
Posted by: Debi at February 6, 2008 04:26 PMWell done Donna, cant wait to see the finished product!!!!!
Posted by: cathy at February 6, 2008 08:34 PMHave you been eating? sleeping? I can't *believe* how fast that border is going!!!
So so pretty...

Oh
can I join. I love the idea of the PIFs.
Love the shawl, agree with the grafting though. It is a tedious job.
