Hedgie
The hedgehog, he is done.
Em has dubbed him "Hedgie"
He is so adorably cute, it's almost nauseous.
Specs:
Pattern: Huggable Hedgehogs by Debbie Radtke for Fiber Trends
Yarn: Main yarn is Ella Rae Classic, Paws are Lincraft Cosy Wool, the Floof is Sandnes Garn Funny.
Needles: 6.5mm and 8mm Knitpicks Options.
Thoughts:
This was a relatively easy knit. It's all in garter stitch, the hardest skills required are picking up stitches and short rows.
Of course, short rows require counting, and I can't concentrate that long, so there was some tinking involved.
The Ella Rae Classic felts like a dream. One wash cycle was all he needed to get to the feltedness I wanted. He did shrink quite a bit, but I didn't think to take before and after measurements.
I picked up packets of cheap eyes and noses at Spotlight, and I now own enough eyes to make 6 more hedgehogs! If I were to make him again, I think I'd hold the floof double, as I think he's looking a little threadbare. I might also use a darker yarn on his back, as I think the light coloured yarn makes him look even more threadbare. If I'd used darker yarn on his back, it wouldn't be so obvious.
In the end though, a complete success. He is intended for David's sister, but I think there will be a struggle to extract him from Emily.
And just to push the cute level right over the edge in this post, I actually got Twinkie to snuggle with me yesterday morning. Please pardon the morning hair and pyjamas, I don't think Twink would've let me go get dressed so a picture could be taken.
Altogether now... "aawwww"
Comments
Oh the hedgehog did turn out just so cute. I wouldnt want to give him up either. Twinkie does look as though he likes his cuddles now too.
Posted by: sue at April 21, 2008 04:56 PMThat's a double awwwwww...one for the hedgehog and one for twinkie. :o)
Posted by: Terri at April 21, 2008 05:18 PMHedgie is soooo cute!
I had rabbits when I was a teenager but they weren't all that keen on being held either.

I had rabbits when I was a teenager but they weren't all that keen on being held either, Twinkie looks pretty happy there though.
Posted by: Katie at April 21, 2008 05:55 PMn'ooor - love hedgie! just the right level of chubbiness!
Awwwww......he's too lovely. Can you make another one and auction him or something? ;-)
Love the bunny/pjs/couch knitting shot.

Posted by: Leeanne Johnson at April 21, 2008 08:37 PMI cannot handle all the cuteness at one! Love the hedgi but Twinkie always wins. I always assumed Twinkie was a cuddler. No?
Posted by: jessie at April 21, 2008 08:57 PMAwwwww :)
Posted by: Lara at April 21, 2008 10:21 PMHedgie is adorable! So is Twinkie - and that's my favorite thing to so with the new bun - cuddle up!
Posted by: chris at April 21, 2008 10:28 PMHedgehog is so cute! I love the little nose. I didn't know you buy things like that.
Posted by: Wool Winder at April 22, 2008 12:58 AMAwww... I bought the yarn for the hedgehog... now just got to knit him. Twinkie is so cute.
Posted by: Madame Purl at April 22, 2008 02:04 AMThat hedgehog is incredibly cute! I think I might even have that pattern somewhere.
The Twinkie picture really takes the cake, of course. But tell the truth... she was in a potato coma, wasn't she? ;) One of my rabbits will let me pick him up, though his eyes bug out while I do it. I'm pretty sure Mrs. Cooper would just bite me. :)
Posted by: Marlena at April 22, 2008 04:33 AMAhhh!... the cuteness!
Posted by: Octopus Knits at April 22, 2008 07:24 AMThat is the cutest hedgehog ever! I love how fat he is. BTW, I love your PJs! I'm a huge fan of PJs...have over a dozen sets of cold weather ones. My birthday is in December so I don't get a lot of warm weather PJs as presents.
Posted by: Evelyn at April 22, 2008 08:26 AMThat little hedgehog is so cute and Twinkie looks adorable as always.
Posted by: Suzanne at April 22, 2008 10:04 AMAwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Posted by: Lynne at April 22, 2008 10:22 AMif not for the fact that i hate putting together stuffed animals, i cast on for a hedgehog of my own right away. that is just too cute for words!
Posted by: karyn at April 22, 2008 06:58 PMIts a good thing I'm no closer or there'd be a struggle to extract him from ME! Too darn cute :-)
Posted by: shan at April 23, 2008 01:11 AMAwwwwwww! My current guinea pigs only let me hold them if food is involved. Otherwise, they are very skeptical of my purpose.
Posted by: Janet at April 23, 2008 09:59 AMHedgie came out adorable. OK, aawwww... Nice that twinkie is letting you cuddle

Posted by: Ann at April 25, 2008 11:14 PMHi, I have NEVER had any desire to knit a stuffed animal, or to felt anything, but I LOVE the hedgehog!!! I shall be getting that pattern!!

I can never get Fiona or Orlando to let me pick them up - I'm allowed to do lots of nose rubs and chin rubs, but never never never to be picked up.
