The Upside of Project Monogamy

Project Monogamy is just not in my nature. If left to my own devices, with no self imposed rules, I would spend all of my knitting time starting new things, and never finishing anything.

So I normally impose upon myself the 3 Project Rule. One pair of socks, One lace project and One garment at any one time. There's leeway in that, I might have gloves on the needles instead of socks, or a cabled scarf instead of a lace project, but only ever 3 projects at once.

Right now I have just two projects on the needles. David's stripey red socks, which have been untouched for days, and his cabled vest.

This cabled vest is showing me the upside of Project Monogamy. I cast on on May 3, four days ago.

I have just joined in the sixth of 10 balls. I'm halfway through in four days. Lovin' it!

I am not loving the knots I am finding in this batch of Jet. We're not talking about little knots, I'm talking about big fat knots that take 10 minutes to unravel.

(That's a bonus shot of my new sheepy pj's for Evelyn!)

That's happened in three out of the six balls so far!

We'll see how long the project monogamy lasts - I'm meeting a local Raveler tomorrow to discuss sock knitting, so I'm pretty sure the socks will be back out then.

I should impose a three project rule as well. My problem is finishing things. I can totally relate!!

I can only do one project at a time. Great progress on the vest.

i have exactly the same rule, with much the same restrictions as you as to type.

I am about to cast on that very same vest for my brother, if he will agree to the cable. How did you go converting it to the round? That's what I want to do. Any tips?

What a mess to untangle! It might be worth rewinding each ball before you start knitting with it.

I love the 3 project rule. Hmmm, I wonder how long it will take me to knit through the WIPs to get down to 3!

A question for you: When you convert a pattern to knit in the round, do you adjust the number of stitches since you will not take up any in a seam?

Loving the ewe PJs! I want those! You're zooming along on that vest. That's what I love about stockinette with a cable - something to keep you interested but there's also mindless knitting.

The vest is looking wonderful. What a pretty cable!

LOL - I bought those exact same PJs for Dotter's hospital bag a few weeks ago, SO cute, especially the single sheep on the top :)

Argh about the knots in the Jet - very poor form.

I have gotten to the point where I have tried to cut down on projects. Right now I have a work project (lace scarf), a home easy project (garter shawlette), my nephews sweater (will be started this weekend). I also have a felted bag on the needles but I haven't touched that in months. Plus an easy scarf that I may rip as it doesn't thrill me. I want to start a larger lace project and have a few sitting wound in bags waiting but nothing that just says start me now so I haven't. I want to make a sweater for me so that may be what is pulling my attention away.

I love the cable in the vest. Looks like it keeps your attention. I also can't stant knots, real or just yarn knots.

I really try to keep to the three project rule, but sometimes I fall off the wagon. The vest is looking good!

Stinking knots. They are the pits!

The vest is coming along nicely. I am much better at project monogamy these days. I like finishing things!
