WWKIP Day 2008

Who Knit In Public this year? The Sydney knitters certainly did, and a great time was had by all!

53 knitters showed up and took over half of the Bayside Lounge at Darling Harbour. Great coffee, great location, great company and a great afternoon all 'round.

Before heading up to the cafe, Emily and I took in the Craft and Quilt Fair. A bit depressing for the knitters, really. I was remarkably restrained!

One skein of Colinette Jitterbug in "Elephants Daydream" from Sarah Durrant, and... erm, that's it.
Yup. one skein of sock yarn. Oh, I did also buy a few handmade soaps. That's it. Emily spent more money than I did! She bought some scrap booking stuff and some beading things.

There was plenty to see if you're into quilting, scrap booking or beading. Personally, the last thing I need is a new hobby to stash for!

So what did I work on a KIP day?

Something new!

Wicked. I've been wanting to knit this for ages, but I've been dithering for a while, mainly because I couldn't decide which size to knit.
It's quick! I started it on Friday, and got David to drive into the city and home yesterday, so in between car time and KIP time, I got a lot done on it. I'm using Dream In Color Classy in "Ruby River", and so far, I'm loving it.

Let's hope it lasts.

Then on the way home, we saw an ice cream truck. This totally made my day, and my next car is going to be this particular ice cream truck. Here's the side.

Here's the front.

I so want a car with an icecream eating polar bear on top.

Oh, I'd like a car with a red shoe on top. And lots of red shoes inside that I could wear!!

Oooh, Wicked is looking wicked. You have officially put me off going to the fair in Hobart. I will stay home and buy online!

We KIPped. It was fun! I was thinking that we did okay to have 12 knitters in a city of 70000. Our ratio was very high!

Your KIP day was a little larger than ours in Bega. We managed about 20 knitters, some knitting squares for Wrapped With Love, while others were knitting their own projects. We had a great morning in the Bega Library, which was warm and cosy compared to the chilly winds outside. Lots of laughing and talking, and a bit of knitting too. We even had a brave bloke learning to knit. Very difficult as he was left handed as well as being a bloke!

Your KIP day looked great. I didn't feel too well so didn't even bother trying to find one nearby. Love Wicked, now I may have to add that to my queue.

Also love the Ice Cream truck. The only ones I have seen are very plain with the annoying music playing full blast.

Ah perhaps you could have a polar bear knitting painted onto your car. I think that would be perfect. It sounds as though the knitting in public went well. My sister was in Sydney for the weekend and was popping into the craft show too. She is a quilter though, not a knitter. I will have to keep a lookout out for that lovely yarn when I go next month. Yours looks lovely.

We KIPed, too! I even looked at a skein of Jitterbug at the LYS. Weird. I think we need at least to WW KIP days a year!

Does knitting at the pub on Friday night count?
Love Wicked, should look great in the colour you've chosen

It looks like your WWKIP day had a larger crowd than mine. :) We had about a dozen people, total. And we had to take our own chairs. But it was fun anyway!

Um...shouldn't the polar bear be knitting? ;-)

What a big turnout & looks like everyone is having a great time. Wicked is also on my list for a long time & I was thinking of using DIC Smooshy as Classy will be too thick for Perth's winter. Love your color.
