Last Week
Thankfully, last week is over. Let me tell you about Friday, because it just summed up the whole week perfectly.
Emily had a pupil free day on Friday. (The teachers have a day at school without the kids, for meetings and stuff. Happens 3 or 4 times a year) So I'd booked doctor's appointments for us both.
Got up early (for me), showered, breakfasted, then went to get the car keys. Looked in all the usual places, no keys. Looked in a few creative places, no keys. Enlisted Emily's help, started to rip the house apart.
No keys.
I rang David at work to ask if he'd seen them. Nope. But he assured me that they had to be here, after all, I drove myself home and let myself in on Thursday afternoon, right? Then I saw the look on Emily's face as she recalled going out to the garage to take the bin out. She'd unlocked the garage with my keys, whined and moaned until David went out to assist her, then came inside while David locked the garage again. With his keys.
My keys were locked in the garage. No garage key, no car key, no house keys. No doctor's appointment! While on any other day we would have coped, Friday afternoon was my Aunty's funeral. I needed those keys.
So David had to turn around and make the hour long trip home again to open the garage.
If I'd been in a better mood, I would have laughed, I'm sure.
However, last week is now over. And we had a hectic weekend, with interstate visitors, and meals out with relatives, and early morning wake ups. So now, I can knit again!
Now that Evie is done, I didn't waste any time casting on the next project.
The Tangled Yoke Cardigan in Grignasco Tango. I scored six balls in a Ravelry destash, and by an awesome co-incidence, rang The Wool Inn in Penrith to try to obtain the one more ball I needed, and not only did they have the yarn in the shade I wanted, they even had the exact same dyelot. Even though the first six balls came from the other side of the country. Some things are just meant to be!
So I've been avoiding alterations by knitting and visiting. I'll probably regret that before the end of the week!
The new Twist Collective is up, and I am in love.
There's lots of nice things in there, but Sylvi has really caught my eye. It's gorgeous.
I'm undecided as to whether I can take on such a big project though. It may require more dedication than I have. Especially if I want it finished in time for winter. I'd have that great big thing draped across my legs all summer long. And we don't have air conditioning.
I'll think on it.
Twinkie has already begun moving into her summer residence.
Comments
Michelle, he obviously has a 'boys' look'!!! Glad the keys were found. It is a horrible feeling. I have spare keys deposited with my friends, just in case!!! Twinkie, that's where Harki and Peri like to be when it's hot, bathroom, kitchen floor or in the paddle pool. I read about the evolution of that coat on the Twist blog, maybe?? It is amazing but I agree, I want to knit a rug but it's just too hot till Autumn!!
Posted by: 2paw at November 17, 2008 10:40 PMI love Sylvi and if it were in a store, I'd be tempted to buy it. But make it? I think my attention span is too short unfortunately. I'm still thinking on it though.
Posted by: Restless Knitter at November 18, 2008 02:39 AMOh I'm a big key loser. It's a chronic problem, despite Sean putting up a special hook for me to use. Ugh.
I have to say, that Twinkie's Summer Residence made us laugh and laugh when I showed it to Sean this morning. he made a crass statement about bunny fur being soft and absorbent. OMG!
Posted by: Bells at November 18, 2008 08:06 AMKit used to sit in the hand basin all summer long. Black fur on white basin. So much fun. It will be interesting to see if Lucy takes over the basin this year.
Posted by: Carol at November 18, 2008 08:47 AMSylive is gorgeous and you have to remember just think how nice it will be to wear it all snuggly and warm in Winter too. I had a morning when I used to work where I misplaced my keys, and of course they were under my handbag. I dont think my boss appreciated me being late though.
Posted by: sue at November 18, 2008 09:04 AMThe keys drama sounds familiar & brings back memories. Tangled Yoke is a good choice & I have seen one knitted up & it looks great.
Posted by: Ann at November 18, 2008 09:32 AMKeys! Don't get me started! Husby cannot remember where he puts his from day to day. Lucky I take note of where they are (or his wallet, or phone) so I can tell him when he starts the inevitable hunt every morning!
I love Sylvi too. Particularly because it's red! But I'm not sure I'm up to making it. I can drool though...
Posted by: Rose Red at November 18, 2008 10:27 AMMy missing key adventure was with one of those hotel key cards. We were a little disorganized in the morning because our luggage had been lost and only arrived very early in the morning. We were rushing for an early tour departure and I put the card on the wide brim of my sunhat where I wouldn't forget it. I picked up the hat and put it on my head. Then I discovered the card was missing and was not to be found. Hotel was unhappy! About an hour later I took my hat off and there sitting on top of my head was that !!!!! card. It had fallen into the crown of my hat. It never dawned on me to look there. The group got a good laugh out of it anyway.
Cool Twinkie
Posted by: Kendra L at November 18, 2008 01:00 PMI have recently lost a prescription from the doctor, multiple sewing supplies and myriad other items. I blame peri-menopause...the only logical excuse.
Posted by: Amy at November 18, 2008 02:26 PMSylvi would certainly be a big commitment, especially as summer knitting.
BTW you've been awarded.
Posted by: Lynne at November 18, 2008 03:33 PMUsed to be if you typed something like "car keys" into google it came up with a photo of keys on a mantle piece and the words "where you left them, idiot!".
Sylvi is a temptress. I have lots of Patons Inca. I reckon Sylvi would look great in a tweedyish yarn. (I'd remove the hood, though.) But I bought the Inca pattern book especially for a coat pattern in it to knit the Inca into. If I change my mind, I'll have bought two patterns for that yarn.
Posted by: chocolatetrudi at November 18, 2008 03:49 PMI look forward to seeing your progress on that sweater! As for the coat, it's very beautiful, but not a summer project. On the other hand, it would take all winter to knit and then you'd have to wait a year. :-)
I have been dreaming of a felted peacoat. Great idea. Can you imagine the size of it pre-felted? No, thanks.
Posted by: jessie at November 19, 2008 01:01 AMVery sorry that you had a bad week. How did your auntie's funeral go?
The new twist collective is unfreakingbeleivably good, better than the first. It will come as no suprise to you that I like the coat you like too. Kingscot comes in a close second.
Me again. I've just been over to twist collective and I think I know why you like the Sylvi coat. I think it's the red riding hood theme that you like - you've been a dancing mum too long, it's gotten into your psyche!
Posted by: Ailsa at November 19, 2008 10:40 AMI keep 2 sets of keys in my bag so I will at least have one when I lost mine, or forgot the other. ;) Seems like many people have problems with keys as well. Love the tweedy WIP. Emily looks cute with tht wig. Lol.. But that designer knitwear hardly seems wearable.
Posted by: kessa at November 19, 2008 11:58 AMOMFG - that coat is gorgeous. But it would look like ass on me, and I'd never get it finished, even if I could afford the yarn.
I'd love to see it on you though :)
Posted by: Lara at November 19, 2008 07:36 PMLol the last thing I needed is to find out about a new site with more lovely tempting items to knit. Thanks for sharing though. The coat is gorgeous....go on,,, you can do it! It will really suit you!

I can tell you a long and involved (and very expensive) story about Scott losing his keys and then getting paranoid and changing all the locks on the house and recoding the car keys, only to find them in his BAG, the one he used every single day, a month later.
Idiot. I told him they were in there, but did he look properly? Noooooo.
Twinkie has the right idea. Tell her to move over - I might just join her.
