December 12
And so another week has slipped under the radar. For me it's just been the general busy sort of stuff that happens at this time of year, but for Emily it's been the best week of her life, apparently.
Her formal went beautifully, and she proclaimed when we picked her up that it was the best night ever. Her feet hurt (from dancing in heels, she thought) and someone had accidentally stepped on her foot, but that wasn't enough to dampen her euphoria.
Saturday morning we woke up bright and early, because we had tickets to a Twilight convention that was happening in Sydney. From my point of view it was a pretty good day, although not very well organised. From Emily's point of view, I think it was close to becoming a tie with the formal. She got to meet Edi Gathegi (Laurent), Nikki Reed (Rosalie) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob).
Her highlights? Nikki Reed told her she was pretty when she got her picture taken with her, and again when she got her autograph. But even better, she got to have her picture taken with Taylor Lautner.
She was shaking like a leaf after that picture. Later in the day, we saw him in the foyer, so Em went to say hello to him, and gave him some Aussie chocolates. He thanked her, spoke to her for a little while, and hugged her - twice. She's still talking about it. We went to see the movie last night, and when he came on screen, and the tweenies started squealing, she leaned over to me and whispered "That's okay Mum, he *hugged* me! Twice!"
She was so cute, I've never seen her shake like that.
Sunday she told me that her foot still hurt. I had a look at it, and noticed that it was looking very bruised. She'd mentioned that her foot had hurt before, but we'd put it down to dancing-in-high-heels hurting. Sunday morning, I realised that your foot doesn't turn black and blue from dancing in high heels. Off to the doctors.
It's not broken. But very badly bruised, the result of someone landing on it in a high heel at the Formal. Stay off it, the doctor says. Easier said than done, she had her dance concert on Wednesday night.
After strapping it, she decided she'd be fine. And she danced beautifully, and dancing is over for year. (Yay!!) Her foot still hurts though, but the bruising is mostly gone.
And good thing for Em number 3, when the Major dance awards for the year were given out, we learned that she had got the highest mark in the studio for her Tap Exam this year. (Well, equal with one other girl).
I told you, Em's number one week in her whole life.
And knitting? I managed some in between all the fun and games.
For the Tangled Yoke, we now have joinage!
At first I was glad that the sleeves were done. Now I'm not so glad that I have all those stitches on the needle and have 3 inches of stocking stitch to do before the cables start!
The only other knitting I've managed is starting some new socks.
I started them and took them along to the Twilight convention, where I managed that much, and then they haven't seen the light of day since. they are Esther socks (Rav link only, sorry!), in Cascade Heritage that I got from Yarns Online. So far I'm really liking this sock yarn, and at only $AU12.50 a skein (enough for a pair!), what's not to like?!?
Hopefully with dancing and school over for the year, and less demand for my chauffeuring duties, I'll have lots more knitting time! (I probably shouldn't have said that!)

What a lovely young woman you're raising. And what terrific memories you've given her.
Posted by: SallyO at December 12, 2008 09:29 PMEnabler. That sock is now in my library.
I'm glad Em has had a wonderful week.
Posted by: Cathy at December 13, 2008 12:39 AMOh my heavens, she got hugged TWICE??
(Jacob's always been one of my favorite of the Twilight characters, and I think Taylor Lautner did a great job in the 1st movie.)
It really will be one of those "she'll never forget" things. I still remember a long, long ago Star Trek convention - Jimmy Doohan called me "Dear" and chatted for quite a while. I still remember the entire conversation!
Posted by: CraftyGryphon at December 13, 2008 12:39 AMIt sounds like a very memorable week for her, how exciting!
The cost of the Heritage yarn is unbelievable. I want some, simply because of the price.
Posted by: Restless Knitter at December 13, 2008 02:58 AMI wonder what her reaction would be like if she got to meet Robert Pattinson a.k.a Edward Cullen himself..hmmmmm
Posted by: Mira at December 13, 2008 04:38 AMOh, to be a teenager again!! So cute!
I've been wondering what the Cascade sock yarn was like - good to hear it is good!!
Posted by: Rose Red at December 13, 2008 06:44 PMOh wow, what a week for Em! I can imagine the excitement :) I love the formal dress that you altered for her, and she's so gorgeous in it.
Posted by: claudine at December 13, 2008 08:17 PMWow - what a week! Two hugs! A dance star! Sensational! And Em looks gorgeous in her formal dress!
Posted by: Nellie at December 14, 2008 07:44 AMshe's not just pretty - she's BEAUTIFUL! and sounds like she's had a pretty fabulous week to boot!
Posted by: Kylie at December 14, 2008 09:20 AMCongrats to Em! She did have a great week. Too bad about her foot, glad it is healing.
I think I bought some of that sock yarn for my sister. It is in a bag with some other gifts waiting to be wrapped but I don't want to do it yet.
Posted by: Suzanne at December 14, 2008 10:48 AMArent teenagers non-stop action. Em is turning out very pretty, she lookds lovely in that photo.
Posted by: Leeanne Johnson at December 14, 2008 11:47 AMDid you just tempt the Knitting Gods?!?! Are you crazy?!?!?
(On the brighter side, Em gets more adorable each time you post about her)
Posted by: Andrea at December 14, 2008 01:30 PMThat's such a great picture of Emily and the hot teenage movie star - hugged - twice!

Congrats on the results Em.
I am soo jealous of the Twilight convention. I think I would melt if I got to meet any of them esp Rob Pattz. I loved the movie so much I want to go again.

Posted by: monica at December 16, 2008 11:51 AMHow exciting for Emily. My girls will love to go that event but in Perth, it's only the movie. Tangled Yoke is looking great. I am also looking forward to the holidays for more knitting time.
Posted by: Ann at December 17, 2008 09:37 AMYay, Em! Sounds like she's had a week she'll remember for years to come. And how lucky to have a mom who's obviously so proud of her and not afraid to shout it from the mountaintops!

Wow I didnt recognise Emily in that picture. What a wonderful week she has had and thank goodness all the excitement took some of the pain away for her foot. I love the Tangled Yoke so far, the yarn looks very pretty. I love the Cascade Heritage sock yarn too, I am using the green and love it, very nice texture and I am sure I will use it again when I buy some different colors.
