Entry 900!
Just now when I logged in to post, I realised that this is my 900th entry! And to think that the web dude thought I'd never keep it up!
I've been working slowly but diligently on Venezia this week. With everything else, I've only been managing around 2 rounds a day, but it was growing.
Notice I said was? That's how it looked first thing this morning. This afternoon, it's looks like this.
I wish the photos were backwards, but they aren't. I failed to do one very important thing. Read the stupid pattern! I was happily plodding along, going by the chart, and didn't pay any attention to the written part, where it mentioned decreases.
I thought about trying to fudge it, but it just wasn't going to work. So I had to rip it out. I thought about knitting something else instead, but if I did that, I'd probably never pick it up again.
In happier news, I finished my Swirl Scarf.
Specs:
Pattern: Swirl Scarf by Jane Field
Yarn: ShibuiKnits Silk Cloud. I got both the yarn and the pattern from The Loopy Ewe.
Needles: 4mm and 4.5mm KnitPicks Harmony
Mods: I looked at a bunch of projects on Ravelry before I started, and noticed that a lot of people had run out of yarn knitting this scarf. As I usually need to go down a needle size anyway, I went ahead and started with a 4mm needle. As I got close to the end, I realised that I was going to have plenty of yarn. Too much, even. So for the last 3 rows I went back up to a 4.5mm needle. I still had 3g left at the end.
Overall? I love it! The weather is warming up here now, and it's getting past scarf weather, but I wore it this week anyway!
It's heavenly soft, and smells of silk. I think I'd like one in every colour!

Sorry to hear about Venezia - hope you get back on track fast! The swirl scarf is very cute - I'm still trying to resist the yarn!
Posted by: Jeanne at September 6, 2009 01:13 AMLove the scarf. Hope the sweater gets back to where you were very soon.
Posted by: Suzanne at September 6, 2009 02:08 AMThe scarf looks lovely - very sphisticated! You must be coming up to 5 years of blogging, non?
hugs nat
Posted by: nat at September 6, 2009 08:06 AMStunning scarf and it even looks soft.
Posted by: jp at September 6, 2009 09:32 AMVery nice. I'm glad the weather here is getting cooler...time for hand knits!! I really like the color as well.
Posted by: Rusty M. at September 6, 2009 10:36 AMOh Hugs over the fairisle - I wish they wouldn't do that - or that there was a big thing next to the chart that said ''look at the pattern NOW''
Scarf is gorgeous - I think I'd want one in every colour tooo!
Venezia - oh noes!! but thank goodness you discovered the mistake (relatively) early.
Look at the pretty swirl - that would be nice to have in every colour!!
Posted by: Rose Red at September 6, 2009 07:59 PMoh isn't that cute. It looks like you have a dozen ballarina's around your neck!
And good on you for sticking out a tough knit - don't frog, keep going!
Posted by: bells at September 6, 2009 10:00 PMKnitter's Law states that had you used the 4.5mm needles in the first place you would have run out of yarn during the last three rows!
The Venezia will be as perfect as your first fairisle, so don't worry too much. (Btw, we're meant to read patterns now?!?)
Posted by: Andrea @ Let Me Knit! at September 7, 2009 09:34 AMoh pretty swirly thing! and its not your fault about the venezia. that was the pattern corrupting fairy at work again. at least she is not living here at the moment (touch wood).
Posted by: kylie at September 7, 2009 10:10 AMThe scarf is so lovely & it does look soft. I thought you made a mistake in the order of your photos for Venezia until I read further. It's not too bad as you have just started & not after you have knitted 20cm!
Posted by: Ann at September 7, 2009 11:15 AMoh Donna, you poor bugger. I can laugh because I did the exact same thing with that cable cardigan! You sit there staring at it for a while trying to decide if you can just keep going, you might even knit another row...and then you realise it just aint gonna work and you know what you have to do!
Posted by: Sheridan at September 7, 2009 08:09 PMThe scarf is so pretty - I really should knit up my Shibui silk! I'm not even going to comment on the Venezia - I have absolute faith in your knitting capacity and perseverance.
Posted by: LynS at September 7, 2009 09:19 PMyour swirl scarf is just gorgeous, so frilly and feminine :)
bad luck with the venezia, but I'm sure you'll have it fixed up in a jiffy!
Posted by: Kylie at September 8, 2009 11:02 AMCheering you on for another masterpiece in the making!
Posted by: Mira at September 8, 2009 03:26 PMglad you caught your mistake early on. I did the same thing on my right front of the sweater.
The scarf is magical. Yes, you must make more colors.
