My Blog

March 16, 2010

One I prepared earlier.

It has been a shitty week here at Casa del Random. Just one of those weeks where one thing after another goes wrong, and there's nothing you can do about it, and nothing you can do to stop it. If I had the time, I'd find a deep dark hole and crawl into it. Nothing very exciting or interesting, just a bunch of things that on their own wouldn't be too bad - just all happening at once.

Of course, this has resulted in almost no knitting worth speaking of.

Here are the sleeves for Rogue.

I guess it looks like they're coming along quite quickly - but it feels like they're inching off the needles. My row gauge is off, so even though I've done the correct number of rows the pattern calls for before starting the armhole shaping, they're way too short, so I'll keep knitting for a bit longer.

Don't you love that cable?

In other knitting news, here's something I prepared earlier.

I actually finished this over a month ago, but it slipped under the radar.

Specs:
Pattern: Fensterbild 57 by Herbert Neibling from Anna Magazine, Spring 2009. (I bought a digital copy from the website)
Yarn: DMC Cebelia Cotton size 30, purchased at Spotlight (less than one ball)
Needles: 1.75mm steel DPNS. I think I need to get a teeny circ before I do another of these. It got a bit crowded on my DPNS.
Mods: None. I'm happy with it, although I got two knots in the yarn, both in the crochet loop bind off. That kinda ticked me off, although I've hidden them pretty well. It didn't block very well to start with. It wouldn't sit flat, no matter how hard I blocked it, and it sprung back within a few days of blocking it.
So I got this brilliant idea to starch it. Yay me! I went down to the supermarket and hunted down some old fashioned powder starch.
The stuff works like a dream. It's blocked and sitting perfectly. It's also almost as stiff as a dinner plate. I've entered it into the Easter Show, where the rules say that entries shouldn't be washed. It doesn't actually say that they can't be starched, though!
We'll soon find out how that goes!

Sorry you've had a crappy week, but those cables really are great!

And as for the doily! Wow!! Fantastic! If you can't find a circular in that size, you could get another set of dpns (I've seen someone knitting lace with similar thread using up to 8 or 10 dpns!!). I've wondered if old fashioned starch could still be bought, good to know it can be!

How could something so exquisite 'slip under the radar'? If I cold knit like this I'd be proclaiming it from the rooftops. I look forward to seeing it - beautifully starched - at the Show.

Ooooooo, sleeves. I just attached the top of my Kangaroo Pocket last night - hopefully, I'll be on "Chart A, top" by the commute home!

Oh that's really fine knitting! I've got some tatted stuff I need to starch. I tried the spray on starch which doesn't work. So will give the "dippy" starch a go.

Wow! What a beautiful doily. Good luck at the Show.

PS Yarns Galore has 20cm circulars at the Expo last week - I think they were $18.95.

Wow, the Neibling is beautiful. I do love that cable.

Sorry the week has stunk.

Do you think there is any room in the dark hole for me too. We have had a week with car troubles which will hopefully be fixed on Friday. A few other little things which add to the mix and I think I am starting to think like you. I am sure by the weekend everything will seem much brighter! Your doily is gorgeous Donna!

It's gorgeous, Donna! Good luck in the show.

(Wish I had the patience for 1.75 mm DPNs....)

The doily is gorgeous & the lace is incredible. You have done such a great job & I am sure next week will be better. The cables on the sleeves look great. I have a cardigan that is waiting for sleeves for the last 2 months as I do not like knitting sleeves - too boring & takes too long.

Hope your week is going better, and at the end of the day, if we are still alive then it all can be fixed, forgotten about or just left back in the past and not bring it with us into the future. Your doily is just amazing. I would think that starching it would be OK with the show, as they seem to be a bit old fashioned and that is what they did with them in the OLD days. Good luck with it all.

I agree with the other ladies that your doily is beautiful. Love the colour.

beautiful doily. How can the rules state that you can't wash your entries? Does that mean you do not block anything...
Cables are so pretty.
It is Daylight Savings that has us down. I hate it.
