Hole-y shit

I had a great many knitting dates this week. Four in five days as a matter of fact. But for all that, very little knitting was done. And I'm not really in the mood to discuss knitting, anyway.

I picked up my entries from the Easter Show yesterday. When I got home and went to put my knitting away, I discovered a minor disaster.

Venezia has a hole. Two, in fact. About a centimetre apart, and it looks as though it's been done when they've been snipping away the fishing line. For quite some time, many knitters have been complaining about the way the Easter Show displays the knitted entries. They use paper clips and fishing line, and you get your stuff back totally distorted and in need of a good blocking to reshape it all. We've also been saying for some time that one day, someone's knitting will be permanently damaged by the display methods.

Well, the day has come. I've emailed them, but there's a disclaimer in the schedule that says they take no responsibility for exhibits, so I don't think anything will come of it. But there's no way I'm ever entering my knitting again until something is done about the way they're hanging the entries.

I've been sewing some this week. I came up with a circular needle storage thingy at the behest of Ailsa.

I've been working on making a few more, and if you're interested, I'm hoping they'll be up in the store by tomorrow night!

The other sewing project I've been working on is some finger puppets. We're doing a little storytime thing at TAFE, and I got nominated for the crafty bits. (Wonder why?)

Here's what I came up with.

Guess what story we're doing?

How terribly disgusting about your knitting Donna! I must say when I saw photos of their displays they didnt show to the best advantages did they. Maybe something should be put in writing to the show's event manager and maybe a petition about the way they are displayed. Surely if it was their own work they would not want it damaged like that would they. Your finger puppets look very cute and I love the circular needle holder too, what a great idea for Mother's Day too.

That's truly awful about your Venezia & also the reason why I don't enter.
Love your needle holder :D

I felt sick when I saw those holes. Disclaimers aside, I hope you get some kind of acknowledgment of what's happened (not that it can fix it).

I love the finger puppets. We get to spend quite a bit of time finding out what that caterpillar's been eating.

Oh no, that's terrible holey news, I hope you can repair it??

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a popular choice in this house. He eats everything in sight, including fair isle jumpers, oh no, that's not a caterpillar, that's a moron! So sorry about your jumper Donna, I hope they promise to improve their standards so you keep putting your knitting in. There is no excuse for such carelessness.

I heard about the holes from Madame la Presidente at the BM Guild today; I was horrified then and am even more horrified having seen the photos!

OMG! That's AWFUL!! I'm so absolutely sorry about your beautiful sweater. I certainly hope they have something to say about the damage they caused!

OMG Donna thats simply not acceptable,no wonder the displays in all the shows I have seen over the years were half empty.Surely you ll get an apology, and hopefully an ammendment to their display practises, its just not good enough, maybe it was a jealous person?
Can you darn over the spots, copy the stitches?
On the finger puppets, Its "The Very Hungry Catapillar"!!! I loved that book!!The puppets look great!!

Oh, no! Holes are very bad. Can you maybe duplicate stitch over the holes to repair it?

those whole suck big time -and really the easter show needs to sort out it's shit otherwise there is not going to be any knitting soon.

I LOVE the finger puppets - they are just fantastic!!!

Oh Donna, I am so sorry about your sweater! There is no excuse for the way they handle them. They want entries and they should handle them with the care that they deserve.

OMG, Poor Venezia. There are so many swearwords running through my head!

I really hope that something is done about the display of the entries at the show. I also hope that they take serious note of your email.

The finger puppets are adorable! :o)

Hmmmm, is there a link between the Very Hungry Caterpillar and your Venezia! I woulnd't put them in the same bag in case more holes emerge!!

Seriously though, those holes make me feel ill on your behalf - it totally sucks. I hope at least that it will make the RAS do something constructive about the way handcrafted exhibits are hung.

Fuck
Amazing
Hungry Caterpillar - and I wish you were our librarian!

So sorry to see what happened to your lovely Venezia... I know a judge in another area and she would never be so callous. Why oh why can't they treat exhibits as though they were their own? Years ago when I was involved with Wollongong Show, there were reports of exhibits being stolen....
BTW, I had a small hole in my Lewis Chessmen and was able to darn/duplicate stitch over, using matching wool, so good luck with the repairs. Your finger puppets are gorgeous!

Devastating

Posted by: Rachel at April 19, 2010 09:43 PM

Unbelievable!! ANYBODY could do a better job at this than the people currently responsible. Maybe someone should start an alternative knitting exhibition; everyone would transfer their stuff to it. Honestly, how hard is it to show knitting a little love?

That's a terrible thing to happen to your gorgeous Venezia. I am now cautious about entering the show if that's how they treat our hand knits. You are a sewing goddess to come up with that fantastic needle holder. It looks great.

The finger puppets are so cute! A loves The Hungry Caterpillar. THat is a very cool case for circulars. Do you have little tags or a place to say what size they are? I'm always afraid the print will rub off on the cable and I'm too lazy to use one of those needle sizer things!

Posted by: Evelyn at April 21, 2010 04:24 AM

I can't believe the holes. They have no business doing shows. I did not know you had a Etsy shop. Love the case.
