Shimmer

So here's one I've been a little remiss in blogging. It's been finished for quite some time, and yet it's sat, unphotographed and unblogged.

Possibly because I'm not feeling the love for it.

Specs:
Pattern: Shimmer by Kim Hargreaves, from "Misty"
Yarn: Rowan "Calmer" in Carnation, purchased from Jannettes Rare Yarns
Needles: Knitpicks Nickel in 4 and 4.5mm
Time: Started May 12, finished June 28. (I told you it had been a while!)
Mods: None.

To start with I quite liked the colour, but the longer I knit with it, the more I disliked it. It looks too orange for my liking. And when I first started it, I wondered why there weren't many pictures of it. Usually Kim puts up at least 2, sometimes 3 different views of each design on her website. For this, there was just one, and the model was sitting on a windowsill and you can't see the shape of the cardi very well. I should have looked more closely at that.

It's boxy. (And to be fair, it's described that way) It's got very deep raglan sleeves, and a very wide neck, and I'm not sure I like the shape. The sleeves are very wide - almost as wide as the back. If I was to knit it again, I'd probably narrow the sleeves a little, raise the raglans a little, and make the neck a little higher.

Will I wear it? I have to say that I'm not sure.

But Ailsa did an awesome job photographing it for me, and making it look pretty good!

hmmmm, there is a slight orangey tinge to the colour. I wonder whether its just too big for you? It's definitely a roomy fit.

It is pretty, though on my monitor, I do see a little orange tinge. Maybe in the winter over a turtleneck?

The fabric is pretty, but you are right about the boxiness. Suzanne's idea of a turtleneck in winter sounds good. Then again maybe sell it on eBay or donate it. It's too pretty to not get worn.

It looks wearable and warm to me - if the slight tint of orange worries you, maybe you could overdye it (get Ailsa to help).

i think it probably is just too big for you, but i can see it would be a really practical item. and it is beautifully knitted of course. i cant see orange, more a peachy pink, so the colour suits you. a good layering piece i think!

I think it looks beautiful but do agree with drk and think it is just too big on you. You could always gift it to one of your lovely friends whom it might fit a bit better!

I think it does look nice on you, but I hardly ever see you in slouchy tops, so I can see why you're not that keen.

Nice blue nails!

I can see what you mean but I still thinks its looks nice on you and the colours suits denim too!Maybe enjoy wearing it now as spare? that way you can make the favourite ones last longer? I like it though!!

Looks alright on you although the sleeves look baggy. I like the stitch pattern. I wonder if it's the yarn as Calmer is really stretchy.

I hate when I have worked on something and then I don't like it. I think it looks nice on you but if you are like me it will just sit in a heap until it finds a new home. But look on the bright side---at least you finished it!
