Buttons
I'm not sure that I've ever mentioned that I have a bit of a thing for buttons. Always have had. When I was a kid, my mum had a huge tin full of buttons. I spent many an hour with that tin, sorting them out into colours, sizes, styles.
Even when Emily was little she used to play with my buttons, counting them out and piling them up.
I've acquired a few new ones lately.
These arrived this week.
I got these from a lovely lady in New Zealand who hand makes them. You can find her here.
We got some new buttons in at work, too. And a few of them have followed me home.
I especially love the little white shell ones with the pink flowers.
And there's a lovely antique store down in Berrima called Peppergreen Antiques, which is sadly closing down. They have an incredible range of buttons. I managed to restrain myself and bring home only a few cards.
Buttons. Love them.
In knitting news, this many ends to weave in should be against the knitting law.

There's knitting law?? It's a wonder then, that I am not in knitting jail!
Loving the pink buttons on the blue card in the first photo.
Posted by: Melissa at September 28, 2011 10:43 PMHaving seen it in real life I know that the tiny cardi is so beautiful it will be worth the tedium of finishing all those ends - even if they are cotton. The pink is such a great shade. Lovely.

Loving all of the buttons! Must say, the button stash at Peppergreen is overwhelming. The couple of times I've been there, I haven't known where to start, heh!
Posted by: RoseRed at September 28, 2011 11:59 PMI got some off Benji as well. Quite a few actually, including the pink ones. I am a button freak as well. Love them!!
Posted by: Sheridan at September 29, 2011 08:10 AMSome beauties there Donna! You can keep the ends though
Posted by: Knitdra at September 29, 2011 08:28 AMLove the buttons. My mother has a button tin. I have a tin that was my aunts that I plan to put buttons in. It's been sitting for a few years waiting. I even bought felt to line it.
Have fun weaving in all the ends!
Posted by: Suzanne at September 29, 2011 10:14 AMPeppergreen is closing down? Nooo, that's so sad! I get my feature buttons from there.
Posted by: Ascasewwen at September 29, 2011 10:27 AMbuttons are amazing! seems like everyone has memories of nana's or mum's button tins - my nana used to collect all types of buttons but in particular she had a special collection of mother-of-pearl ones sourced from our regular trips to the op shop.
i get completely overwhelmed at peppergreen too, and end up with nothing. you have a good eye for the nice button! they are all gorgeous. ive noticed them on your project bags too. and all those ends. gah. i thought if anyone could find a cheat for that it would be you!
Posted by: drk at September 29, 2011 12:15 PMSo many people have a button obsession, including me! they are gorgeous. And you should not restrain yourself if a place is closing down, you should buy them all!
Posted by: Judy Edmonds at September 30, 2011 12:29 PMI thought I was the only little girl in the world who got to play with her mother's button tin and sit for hours sorting!!
Posted by: Debra at October 1, 2011 08:49 AMI used to love playing with my mum's button jar too! I wonder what happened to it!

I'm not sure what that coloured thing is, but whatever it is it's GORGEOUS! Is it for the shop?
