Finally

Finally, it's done. Well, almost!

Ella is off the needles. It fits me better than it fits David, I promise! Not blocked yet, this picture was taken within minutes of it being finished. Better pics to come!

And another long term project is done. I made a quilt for Em. My first full size quilt - and possibly my last. I didn't really enjoy making it, but I'm glad I did.

I'm pleased with the end result, and I think Em is too!

It's the Jelly Filled quilt by Thimble Blossoms, made with a Moda "Ruby" jelly roll and some extra fabric. I chose these colours because they're girly without being babyish.

When I sew, I'm a guesser. It's a bit odd really, because I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist in everything else, but I sew by feel and instinct rather than by careful measuring and precision. That doesn't really work in quilting. There was a great deal of exasperation and unpicking involved in this quilt.

And I'll be the first to admit I didn't actually do the machine quilting. I didn't want to ruin the hard work I put into the piecing, so I paid someone else to quilt it for me!

But I'm happy with it, and it looks nice on Em's bed.

There's a reason why you can't see anything other than the bed. My idea of a clean bedroom doesn't have the same execution as hers.

But at least the quilt is pretty!

Two HUGE projects done! How liberating!

Just look at that ruffle around the front and neck! SO MUCH WORK! Amazing!

I plan on making a quilt one day...and I most definitely will have someone else quilt it for me, heh!

Donna,
Beautiful sweater! And I really love the quilt. I want to make a few quilts someday....I love to see them hanging on a clothesline. Happy Easter!

Well done on the two projects ,both are awesome!! I love quilting and if I had a sewing room dedicated to that feild I would churning more out but lack of space and time has limited the productiom, hopefully Ill be able to finish tow more for the last sons before they leave home(no worries there I think)

How lovely! Will you give in when Em upgrades to a double/queen bed and asks for a new quilt?

The quilt looks fabulous and I cant wait to see the Ella coat on you (which I am sure will look gorgeous). What is about kids and clean rooms - maybe if we told them to keep it messy they might clean it up!

So beautiful. What a great job you have done on both projects! I like the idea of quilting, the choosing fabrics etc, but the actual sewing part isn't that much fun. Too much measuring!!

Oh God, I laughed so hard at that pic of David in your coat, wine nearly came out my nose! The coat is fabulous, well done you!

And the quilt is gorgeous too. I too struggle with the precision required to sew patchwork, but wow the effort was worth it!

Flash just walked past the monitor and remarked "now THAT is love!" well done :-)

You did a great job with the quilt nonetheless. I remember when I first started knitting, I was talking to an aunt who was super crafty (and who shared *none* of her knowledge with anyone) about knitting and she told me it was easier than sewing and quilting because you didn't have to be so precise. I wasn't sure whether that was a snide way of telling me that I was "only" a knitter, but it certainly is factually true, lol!
